Hi Joëlle! I’m a huge fan of your Catwoman run, Lady Killer, and your work on Batman.

1. I love that Villa Hermosa was a sort of fun-house-mirror version of LA. What about VH/ LA did you think would make for the purfect setting for a Catwoman story?

2. Raina Creel is a terrible villain in the best way possible. What did you enjoy the most about creating her and was there anything that surprised you about her as she developed in the story? (Ps- I’d love to see her revived. Cat’s 9 lives vs the immortal Raina Creel?)

I’m so glad that you are enjoying the stuff I’ve been putting out!

1- VH was really a visual opposite to Gotham, instead of shadows, everything is draped in acidic sunlight. I thought taking Cat out of her natural habitat and placing her there would lead to some interesting stories!

2-I love Raina Creel too for a villain! She was so fun to draw just because drawing beautiful people all the time can get boring! Also the idea of someone driven by the fear of death and aging, especially in a psychotic woman could be really fun!

P.s- I’d love to see that too

I absolutely adore your art style. The attention to detail, the smooth flow of the lines…all incredibly pleasing to my eyes. I love your work on “Supergirl: Being Super” which quickly became one of my all-time favorite Supergirl stories. Just gorgeous-looking all around.

My question for you is…

If ever given the chance, how would you feel about working on a Gotham City Sirens run?

Judging by your work on “Catwoman”, I think you would do an amazing job!
And I personally would love to see Harley and Ivy drawn in your style.

I am always looking at art and getting excited by other artists all the time!
Classics are JC Leyendecker, Coby Whitmore, Austin Briggs and Pete Hawley.
In comics I love Adam Hughes, Sergio Toppi, Stuart Immonen and really a ton of others!

I am, thanks for asking!

1-My Catwoman scripts are an absolute mess and pretty much impossible to read by anyone but me. I do have to write for other artists occasionally and I try to go pretty traditional format on those.
2-The best advice I can give is never write a scene you aren’t excited to draw, if you have just a dialogue scene make the setting exciting, a bad guy “dialogueing”? Have other characters reacting in a fun way. If you don’t enjoy it people can always tell.
