No worries – it was entirely user error on my front. This just means I’ll have to remember and do a little more work to make it in the elimination bracket.

JUSTICE LEAGUE EAST: THE FINAL NIGHT

When a strange visitor arrives on Earth with dire news of an approaching doom, the heroes of the DCU must unite to battle a terrifying threat–the aptly named entity known as the Sun-Eater–that can blot out the sun and plunge the world into eternal darkness. What will happen when there is no light, no warmth? What will mankind do if night falls forever?

With the sun gone, the world’s greatest hero, Superman, lies cut off from his power source. The heroes of the DC Universe must turn to it’s best scientific minds to overcome the appoaching darkness while widespread panic and religious hysteria engulf the citizens of the world.

The heroes are quickly running out of time; even the Spectre stands powerless. Doom
seems inevitable that is, unless one man can find the courage within himself to make the ultimate sacrifice—saving not only the world, but his very soul!

Instructions:

  • Pick the league you feel would best prevail in this scenario
  • Assume the characters in the synopsis are replaced with the leagues in the poll
  • Even if you know the story, the plot could play out completely different with this unique group of league members
  • Add your perspective in the comments! Use your best judgment with spoilers
  • Team captains: Feel free to add some convincing but brief comments on why your team is the superior choice!
  • Winning team: when the poll is over feel free to share your perspective on “how it all went down” in as extended a manner as you wish.

Highlights:

  • The Sun-Eater is not a conventional antogonist. It is amorphous, emotionless, and motivated only by a desire to feed
  • Earth’s heroes are challenged instead by supporting the people of Earth though extreme cold, hunger, civil unrest, and hopelessness.
  • As an homage to the original story, pick a hero to sacrifice themselves to neutrlize the Sun-Eater and restore the Sun’s diminished output. How would they do it?
Cradle2theGabe's Black, Blue, Green and Dead
  • Alec Holland (Swamp Thing)
  • Teth-Adam (Black Adam)
  • Jarro
  • Ted Kord (Blue Beetle)
  • Kilowog (Green Lantern)
  • Boston Brand (Deadman)

VS.

Detective7's Detective's Dawn
  • Kara Zor-El (Supergirl)
  • Dick Grayson (Nightwing)
  • Rachel Roth (Raven)
  • Caitlin Snow (Frost)
  • Simon Baz (Green Lantern)

JUSTICE LEAGUE WEST: DOOMSDAY CLOCK

R (3)

Seven years after the events of Watchmen, Adrian Veidt has been exposed as the murderer of millions. Now a fugitive, he has come up with a new plan to redeem himself in the eyes of the world. The first step? Finding Dr. Manhattan. Alongside a new Rorschach and the deadly new duo Mime and Marionette, he follows Manhattan’s trail into the DC Universe-which is on the brink of collapse as the “Doomsday Clock” tics ever closer to midnight.

International tensions are running rampant with The Supermen Theory implicating the U.S. government in creating superhumans to maintain global dominance. With the Earth teetering on the brink of an international super-war, Black Adam and his followers make their move to defend the persecuted metahuman community.

While our heroes are busy elsewhere, Dr. Manhattan has set his endgame into motion. The fate of the Multiverse hanging in the balance in a final confrontation between Superman and Dr. Manhattan.

Highlights:

  • Black Adam has launched assaults on various world governments. De-escalate or otherwise disable Adam and his team including Creeper, Giganta, Killer Frost, Lady Clayface, Man-Bat, and Manhunter.
  • The only hope for saving the world is to help Dr. Manhattan rediscover his humanity and convince him to use his great power to restore a more stable Omni-verse. How will you do it? (without Superman)
  • Alternatively, conceive of a way to destroy Dr. Manhattan (again, without Superman)

That was tough but I think having Jarro and Deadman gave you the lead (for me at least). Since the Sun-Eater can’t be stopped from the outside, I think Deadman would be able to get a bomb inside. Plus, he could just find like… Darkseid and fly him inside the Sun-Eater with an absorbium bomb.

:black_heart::blue_heart::green_heart::skull:

Realizing the dire nature of the situation Swamp Thing nearly exhausts The Green by redirecting absorbed photosynthetic energy back into the cold Earth and overproduces critical crops to feed the masses.

Deadman and Jarro make repeated attempts to penetrate the “mind” of the Sun-Eater with no success. Jarro returns to Earth to spend the Final Night by Batman’s side. Deadman contemplates what will happen to his incorporeal form with no Earth or bodies to anchor to.

Kilowog appeals to the Guardians on Oa to aid Earth’s struggle to no avail. The Guardians do not perceive the Sun-Eater as evil, but merely a natural phenomena of the universe. In solidarity with Earth’s Green Lanterns, Kilowog remains on the doomed planet to keep order in the remaining days.

Blue Beetle initially contributes to the scientific study of the Sun-Eater but leaves in frustration under Lex Luthor’s leadership. He commits the full resources of Kord Industries to help the freezing masses and personally delivers supplies and escorts refugees in The Bug.

Prioritizing the people of Khandaq, Black Adam returns to his homeland. As the direness of the situation sets in, Adam pleads to his patron gods to take action to save his nation and planet. With no response, Adam furiously hurdles himself towards the Sun-Eater to attempt to take the creature head on.

Suddenly, as he approaches, he feels an intense warmth build within him. With no radiation from the sun how could this be in the cold of space? The Egyptian Sun god, Ra has imbued Adam with his power and the subsequent collision disintegrates the Sun-Eater/Adam and revitalizes the Sun to it’s normal state. Back on Earth Teth-Adam is honored as a hero.

The reason the Heroines of Justice are the right team to handle the Doomsday Clock situation:

  • Nubia and Power Girl would be sent to talk with Dr. Manhattan. They could relate to him on multiple levels:
  1. Nubia is a Queen, an immortal and a metahuman and yet chooses to fight for humanity and earth. She could talk to Dr. Manhattan as a peer and explain why she made that choice and why she finds humanity worth saving.
  2. Power Girl is essentially a God as well and could, like Dr. Manhattan, wipe out civilization in a moment. But she chooses to use her power to help and defend humanity as well and could echo Nubia’s thoughts and reinforce why Dr. Manhattan should rediscover his humanity.

This could be played out in a very philosophical way, like the way Wonder Woman considered joining the Quintessence at the end of Infinite Frontier. Arguments could be made both ways and at one point Dr. Manhattan might even come close to convincing Nubia and Power Girl to side with him. But ultimately, good would prevail.

The other threat is Black Adam and who is better to handle Black Adam than Hawkgirl and a member of the Shazamily? Mary Marvel and Hawkgirl are perfectly suited to battle Black Adam on their own but when the two of them combine to fight him they can’t lose. Much like Nubia and Power Girl would approach Dr. Manhattan as a peer/equal these two would battle Black Adam as his peer/equal. And once they got him stopped, physically, Mera could come in and talk with him as a fellow leader and metahuman.

While all of them are doing that there’s sure to be a LOT of issues around the earth to deal with and that’s where Harley Quinn comes in. She won’t be dealing with Dr. Manhattan or Black Adam but she will be dealing with the chaos that results from their actions and who thrives more in chaos than Harley Quinn?

The Heroines of Justice are uniquely and ideally suited to handle this threat and are the right choice. Vote Heroines of Justice and save humanity in the process!
