Hello friends,
UPDATE: Signups are closed! Thanks all to our players! Come back Saturday, April 1st at 5pm EST for the start of the draft!
Opening ceremonies are at 4:30pm EST!
Veteran game-maker @Jurisdiction and I are teaming up to put on an event we hope you’ll like. Check out the details below. Sign up NOW! We’ll close signups March 31st @ 12pm EST or if we get to 32 participants before then.
Prologue:
Assemble your own Justice League! Compete for supremacy against rival leagues! This is the inaugural DCUI Justice League League Draft! Choose from a roster of over 200 past and present JL/JLA/JSA members (and some wildcards). Each league captain will pick a single hero through a series of 6 rounds in a randomly seeded order until a 6 hero team has been chosen. Leagues will then be arranged into a tournament bracket and matched up against another player’s league. The general community will vote on which league would reign supreme in a series of classic Justice League conflicts and trials until one team remains as our first winner of the Justice League League!
Phase 1: Sign Ups
Reply to this thread affirming you intention to participate in the event. Please read the full game set up before committing as this will likely stretch over several weeks. We’ll play with as little as 4 teams but the cap with be 32. First come, first serve. @Jurisdiction and I will share authority as co-commissioners. I’m prepared to sit the game out, but in the event off odd team numbers I’ll jump in. 4, 8, 16 and 32 players (pictured below) are ideal, but we’ll work with whatever we have.
Phase 2a: The Draft Class
A list of predetermined heroes will be posted below (Google Sheets). We’re not claiming this list is current, complete or correct. It’s just what we’re using to play the game. If you want to include (or exclude) a hero, “petition” for them by replying to the thread with your case. Maybe we missed them or maybe you just think they’re league material. The Trinity will be excluded (boo, I know) or any other versions of those heroes with different mantle-bearers going by the name Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman (or similar). We won’t stop you from building the team you want to build but you know…there’s plenty of Green Lanterns to go around. The Justice League is all about diversity!
Phase 2b: The Draft
Declared players will be randomized. Assuming 16 players for example, 1 is the first pick in each round and 16 is the last. The Draft will be initiated by a Commissioner. Players a.k.a. Captains can freely make picks (in this thread) once the draft has started in their assigned order. Once round 1 is over, round 2 can immediately begin with the first Captain in the order. We hope for a good pace, but 24 hours is the maximum time between picks (it could take a long time otherwise with up to 192 picks). If you exceed 24 hours without making your pick (or at least your intention to do so) you’ll lose your place in that round’s order and the next captain may pick. You can make up missed picks after the final round. If you realllllllllly fall off the radar, we might have to ask for a willing sub. Once The Draft has started we will start summarizing the teams and picks in this post so you can follow along without accessing Google Sheets.
Note 1: Name Your Team
Once your league is complete, declare a name and battlecry! Or simply go by [username]'s Justice League. Battlecry: Silence…hmm that’s actually kind of intimidating.
Note 2: Trades
A period of time will open up for “Trades”. Captains may engage in a single shared transaction involving trading as many players as they wish (even an entire roster) with another Captain’s consent. Reply in thread for trades. You can feel more emboldened to stack multiple mantle-bearers here. Everyone’s had their fair shot at this point.
Note 3: The Bracket
Completed leagues will be assembled per traditional tournament seeding and divided into 2 conferences: Justice League West and Justice League East. Within conferences, leagues will be matched up against one another (1 vs 1) and the general community will vote on which league would fare better in a challenge through polling. The league with the highest votes will advance into the next round. The challenges will be unique to each conference.
Phase 3a: The Trials
Leagues will be eliminated until 2 remain for the Justice League League Finals! Classic League storylines will be the premise of each matchup e.g. “Darkseid has enslaved the Earth’s population with the Anti-Life equation and is warping reality to his whims. Which team is best suited to foil Darkseid’s evil machinations?” (Final Crisis). Any Captain or spectator may vote. Polls will be open for 24 hours (we may extend, depending). Voters, feel free to justify (or not) your choice in the thread e.g. “Hawkman and Booster Gold would beat Darkseid because XYZ…”. This part is really the point of the whole exercise, interesting debate! Sorry for all the rules!
Phase 3b: The Consolation
Eliminated players from the first round will be entered into a consolation bracket in a similar format i.e. Assuming 16 leagues, 8 will be eliminated in the first round and these leagues will constitute the consolation bracket. Winner of this bracket will claim 3rd place!
Phase 4: The Finals
(it’s a surprise)
Main Bracket
Consolation Bracket
Hall of Fame
Please freely discuss the event along the way! This will be the color commentary! @Jurisdiction and I will sort through for official game activity.
Have fun, poozers!
