Any feelings about the Generation one shots apparently not happening? I have to admit, I was more excited for them than I was for what we now know as Future State, even though some of those solicitations sound mighty interesting.

I was trying to remember a comic I read within the last month or two for part of an answer to a question I posed to HCQ (now this past week). However, since I had read a few more comics since that time, looking into my comic reading history I could not find it.

(Probably because I have read quite an amount since then and our reader history only stores so many at a time)

So, it got me thinking… What if there was a function to search for all the comics we’ve read when browsing comics? Right now our search function returns what titles or series we search for (or closely associated to our search) and when looking into the the series or specific comic issue we can see whether we read it or not.

As such, here is one example, where I searched The Death of Superman and clicked on one that I did read.

We do have the “mark as read” notation at the top of our development list, and once that data is set I think we can create some flexible search result options to remove comics read, or show only comics read.

There was a time when we were pursuing badges for number of comics read, so tracking these details are definitely baked into our thinking

Or, maybe to simplify this further is that the read history could have an option to see what was read for each month instead?

This actually might inadvertently be a little more complex as it’s adding a time element to the search results (would it follow that you would be able to search for all comics read between March and June of 2019?). I do have a bit of a hard time understanding the value of that function, whereas I do grasp the need to remove already read comics from search to help de-clutter.

That first screen that you get to when you click into a comic book series has got to go I beg you. It’s just a convoluted mess IMO and helps no one and keeps them from making the next step to the full series if they don’t see at the very top and they don’t know to scroll up to get there.

I agree – also, if there was a way to make it so hitting back on the tablet doesn’t take you ALL THE WAY BACK to the main comics section and instead back to where you were in the “All Comics Series” menu would be great!

A second for a change to the first screen, noted!

To make sure I understand a sense of where you might have been in the “All Comic Series” menu. Maybe you’re hanging out in the “H” section for a while, then you scroll down and it populates until you start hanging out in the “S” section. You click back hoping to be back in H, but instead it goes back to the last web address you were in- is that right?

I like this idea – better yet, I would like to see at some point a way to manually put in that you read a book here, or at least have the progress bar that signifies you read a book stick around longer than a couple days, and actually be on books I’ve read instead of just sticking on random books I never even touched.

So a little "mark as “read” checkbox? This could also be a way to notate books you’re not interested in reading and want to eliminate from search results- until you’re ready, then you could search books you’ve read and “uncheck” them.

Would you prefer a single icon signifying you’ve read the book in its entirety over a progress bar?

I mean, I don’t know if I’d call it necessary, but it can be helpful for if I go back to a book I haven’t read in a while and forgot where I stopped, and it’s nice sometimes to just look at how many comics of a particular run I’ve read.

I could see the satisfaction in that. Some early thinking before we launched the program was to have a “progress indicator” so you could see how many issues of all the library you had read.

It was good to enjoy some putting in some tunes again for our Mixtape Monday.

Kind of a bittersweet day Monday though. It’s a birthday for a family member, but also is a day that some family members have passed away on as well.

If some of us wanted to run a game of the 2013 DC Adventures RPG in the community, would that be okay, or would we be running up against the fan creation rules?

This was actually a large part of the early conversation that I had with legal to better define fan fiction. For the same reasons the Mafia games are permitted, a DCU RPG would be totally fine. I would be curious how it would serve the greater community, or how it would scale to allow involvement with upwards of 50 people.
