In this thread, post the first words ever spoken on panel by your favorite characters.
I used my top 3 from my profile:
- Bruce Wayne/ Batman - Detective Comic #27 (1939)
2a. Uno/ Curt Falconer/ Aztek - Aztek #1 (1996)
2b. Nayeli Constant/ Aztek - Justice League of America Vol 5 #20 (2018)
- John Stewart/ Green Lantern - Green Lantern #87 (December 1971/January 1972)
Hawkman’s first appearence is not on here.
I am covered from DC 27
.
Wow, his first words express a terrible ability to read people.
I knew it would be an insult, but I thought it would be at Pat.
First words are normally very underwhelming, but there is an exception. It is not from DC but our greatest rival.
I’m going to assume thought balloons don’t count as first words. Because, I seem to think a lot.
Travis Morgan
Five pages into 1st Issue Special #8 I finally speak to say goodbye to my beautiful blackbird.
The Warlord
Page 15 and I first speak as the Warlord (at least in my first appearance in native garb).
Of course it took me a while to learn Skartaran so I couldn’t talk to anyone.
The Al Ghuls
Talia Detective Comics #411)
Ra’s Ra’s is a little confusing or open to interpretation. All from Batman #232
He spoke on the cover.
He first spoke off panel (appearing? Not appearing?)
His first spoken words within the issue actually showing him.
Jason Todd goes three whole issues without uttering (or even thinking) a word. Then we finally get a little bit out of him in Detective Comics #525.
There. Was that so hard, Jay?
(I wonder if he said the ™ out loud…)
While technically not Shiera Sanders’ first words, these are her first words as Hawkgirl in costume:
Flash and Green (Hal Jordan) Lantern
Showcase #4
Barry talking to himself with only his hands showing.
Barry talking where we can actually see him.
Showcase #22
Another first words to interpret. Does telepathy count?
Hal “thinking” after Abin Sur “speaks” to him telepathically.
Hal “speaking” telepathically.
Hal speaking aloud to Carol Ferris.
Wally West
The Flash #110
April 30, 1959
Jumping Jets! This should be reinstated as Wally’s exclamation of choice!
Here’s a famous villian who actually said his first words on a radio before the reader see his first appearance!
Here’s Harley Quinn in her first ever comic, her first word ever in The Batman Adventures #12!
*She’s talking to Poison Ivy.
Thinking or speaking? Just call me the nitpicky Warlord. See my earlier posts.
My top five favorites.
Batman from Year one the first comic batman Comic I owned
It first Batman comic I ever read
The first time reading Catwoman (I view her as an enforcer or a dominatrix and not a pro in year one,)
First comic Catwoman I ever met as I checked out DKR from my middle school library.
Not a word, but I love Doomsday cause he killed the man of steel. I do not like superman, but oddly I like Clark Kent.
I like Carrie Kelley; however, her relationship with DKR batman is confusingly uncomfortable.
The original heroic huntress Helena Wayne’s first words.
