If you are using lined paper for the help, versus itās just spare paper you have handy for roughs, you should try graphing paper (and if you are in school and itās a cost/availability issue, you can always find engineering or math students who might be open to trade your writing paper for their graphing paper; as someone who was a poor art minor student at school, thatās just a tip. However, my school had plenty of business students who had to take stuff like calculus, plus a lot of engineering students.
