What is the proper way to read Metal story arc and Dark multiverse in comics?

I’m still reading of how it all began. But keep seeing different titles.

I want to read the stories in order to understand more about the characters and Metal story arc, and dark multiverse.

For Dark Nights: Metal itself, you can read the two lead-in books and then the main series.

The tie-ins are optional. Fun reads, but not required to get the main story.
