Dark Knight Returns 1 and 2 so good! Basically just a bunch of everything suggest watching Doom Patrol also very nice.
Now comic wise you should give Dark Knight Metal a go.

Attend Watch Parties in Watchtower forum every Friday at 9 pm to watch together. Need Phone or tablet to type and other device to watch.
You dont have to know characters first but each series uses material from Comic Books

For Comics, I recommend starting with Kyle Baker’s Plastic Man, New 52 Batman, or New 52 Justice League.
For tv, start with Batman TAS or for movies, start with The Flashpoint Paradox.

I think Heavy Metal and Flashpont are great works but not for someone unfamiliar with the DC Universe.
Also the Dark Knight Returns has a much greater impact when the readers has read many issues of Batnan.
