Think You Know Hourman? Get Featured in DC Universe Encyclopedia!

This week, we’re asking DC fans to submit their fun trivia facts about a character who has been represented by three different individuals, but it was the first that created the “miraculous vitamin” Miraclo, which gave him superhuman strength and speed but only for an hour. Using a costume found in an abandoned shop, he began his life as a superhero. In 1940, he became one of the founding members of the Justice Society of America. The mantle was also held by his son and an android. Of course, we can only be talking about the one and only Hourman!

Let us know all your little-known intel in the comments below, and it could be selected for featuring in our new “Trivia” Encyclopedia section! Anyone whose Fun Facts are selected will receive a rare “Daily Planet Editor” badge!

Remember – All facts MUST be cited with their source to be considered for- it can be any source! Just be sure you cite it.

Umm…it sounds like we’re more than an hour late already.

Anyway, here’s my contribution: Hourman’s temporary enhancement drug Miraclo was introduced in 1940, predating the discovery of Sildenafil by 39 years.

After the JSA was revived in “Justice League of America” #21," Hourman starred in two memorable issues of “Showcase,” alongside Dr. Fate (#s 55-56). The two issues are considered the start of a full-on Golden Age revival at DC, as they solely focused on JSAers (without any Silver Age co-stars). These issues also mark one of the few times where Hourman received something of a spotlight tale, outside of the annual JLA/JSA crossovers.

FACT: At a PAX convention many years ago, they were demo-ing the as-yet unreleased superhero MMO Champions Online. To further build up hype, they were giving away Champions Online swag. I was among the mob of enthusiastic people swarming around the guy asking the superhero trivia questions.

One question was: “Name the superhero who takes a pill granting him superpowers for exactly one hour.”

I knew it immediately but hesitated (probably excited or nervous) and then realized NOBODY in the crowd of 20-30 people knew it. There was not a single raised hand. I shook off my hesitation and shot up my hand, correctly answering “Hourman”. I kid you not, some guy behind me vocally scoffed at me for knowing the answer.

Anyway, I won a ping-pong ball rifle. Even though it doesn’t work anymore, I still fondly remember that day. Thank you Hourman. Even though nobody there knew who you were, you are still my hero.

This is a solid fact, but I don’t think we can get away with any overt references to the merry marching competition.
