The Art of Mikel Janin

Enjoying right now Justice League Dark, which is much enhanced by Janin’s art, which seems to be a mix of digital and paint, though perhaps all digital. Not sure. I’ve tended not to go for that hard digital sheen because sometimes it comes across like a cartoon. But I think Mikel brings the right blend.

I liked his work in JLDark, but for some reason, I liked him more on Grayson.

His art really did define the show, I think. The animation was smooth and the visuals were definitely memorable. I even used one of the scenes as my avatar! I just love it so much.

He’s a good artist. Justice League Dark (N52) was where I first learned of him.

I’m also in JLD, up to the Trinity War, Janin’s work is pretty but still capable of movement and power (sometimes missing from what I think of as pretty comic art). He’s also great at facial expressions.

Dislike it. He’s completely overrated imo, I do not get the hype he’s been getting the last couple years.

@msgtv Exactly. I typically don’t go for the digital prettiness. Reminds me of airbrush art on vans. But Janin manages to bring expressiveness in faces and movements that’s got weight.
