Success of Knightfall

When Knightfall came out, one of the reasons was to replace Bruce Wayne as Batman with someone with even more violent tendencies. There was a push for grim and gritty and some people felt the concept of Batman was old-fashioned since he would not kill. Beat people up yes, but not kill. Jean-Paul Valley was the response to show why we needed Bruce’s Batman.
I am curious if you thought it was successful in its attempt to show why Batman was the way he was.

Wow. I actually never knew that was the purpose of knightfall. I really enjoyed knightfall and jean-paul too, but I liked Bruce better. But honestly sean-paul had a better suit

I don’t know if that was the sole purpose of the storyline but it was one of the things behind it.
