Here’s one for you. Adam West came to the attention of Batman producer William Dozier when he appeared as Captain Quik, a nautical-themed James Bond parody, in a Nestle Quik commercial. It’s mentioned in his Hollywood Reporter obituary.

I just still have no clue how he went from “Honk-Honk” to I’m Batman.

If you don’t get it, rewatch Beetlejuice. Normally I’d suggest a clip, but the whole movie is great, sooo…

The majority of DC characters given their own movie serial in the 1940’s were characters appearing in Action Comics.

Vigilante, Congo Bill, and (obviously) the two Superman serials starred characters with long runs in Action Comics. The moral here is, if you can’t be the most popular super hero in America, then be his back-up feature.

I wonder if Sam Katzman didn’t get his hands on copies of Action Comics for the first Superman serial, and while looking at it thought, “Hey, here are two other characters I can adapt into serials!”
