MARSHAL LAW!!!
AGE SUGGESTION: 17+

Number of Issues: 7 (Please only read “Fear and Loathing” and Chapters 1-6)

Synopsis from dcuniverseinfinite.com: A New York Times Bestseller! In the spirit of JUDGE DREDD and the current hit series THE BOYS, MARSHAL LAW is a violent, satirical series about a futuristic law official charged with policing super-heroes gone rogue by any means necessary, all whilefighting his own self-hatred for being the thing he hates most: a super-hero. Featuring art by Kevin O’Neill, illustrator of THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, the centerpiece of this massive volume is the original six-part tale in which Marshal Law hunts down the Sleepman, a serial killer who is somehow connected to the popular hero known as The Public Spirit.

Now that that’s over with, here are some discussion questions:

  1. What do you think sets the Jesus League of America apart from other evil alternatives of the Justice League (ie The Boys or the Crime Syndicate)? Explain.
  2. What role do you think societal norms play in this series? Explain.
  3. The members of the Jesus League of America, along with several other masked characters, tend to call themselves “superheroes.” Do you think they genuinely believe they’re acts are heroic, or are the just conforming to the public’s perspective? Explain.
  4. It’s rare to see sections of text in comics, but this series has a handful of fully-produced paragraphs. Why do you think Kevin O’Neill and Pat Mills (the creators) decided to format part of the series like this? What impact do you think it has? Explain.
  5. Of the “heroes” we see in the “primary” series, which is your favorite? Why?
