Obscurity of DC Presents: Obscure Book Club, Week ONE-HUNDRED (March 3-March 9) --- LEVI KAMEI (Pt. 2)!

Why hello there, @ObscurityofDCClub and other members of the DC Community! Welcome to Week 100 (THE BIG 3-DIGITS!) of Obscurity of DC’s Obscure Book Club! This week will be the conclusion of a 2-week focus on…

LEVI KAMEI!!!
AGE SUGGESTION: 12+

Number of Issues: 8 (Please only read issues 9-16)

Description from dc.fandom.com: After visiting his home and family in India, Levi grew connected to the Green, becoming the new Swamp Thing. He is still learning to grasp his power and what it means to be the new avatar of the Green.

Now that that’s over with, here are some discussion questions:

  1. Throughout the series, we see Levi and Jennifer teetering on the border of friends and lovers. Do you prefer them when their relationship is platonic or when it’s romantic? Explain.
  2. The trope that a hero’s sibling is the villain is not new to comics. What sets Levi and Jacob’s conflict apart from other sibling conflicts in comics?
  3. Mr. Pilgrim is an interesting antagonist in that he acts as though he is in the right. Do you believe he is a hero or villain? What label do you think Mr. Pilgrim would give himself? How do Levi’s opinions on Mr. Pilgrim affect your own? Explain.
  4. In issue 11, we see two people with very opposing stances of The Green despite their similarities. Who do you agree with more when it comes to rescuing Levi: Tefe and Jennifer? Why?
  5. In this series, we see a lot of common themes: family, trust, and power all come to mind. What roles do these three topics play in the series, and how do they shape Levi into the man (or Swamp Thing) he is?
