John has cheated death once again—but his heart’s not beating, his body is decaying, and he, his friend Nat, and his son Noah are on the run in America, wanted for murder. Naturally, it’s all John’s fault—it always is. But as it turns out, Dream himself needs John’s help. Something terrible has taken root in America, and it’s using the sand from Dream’s pouch to impose its will. If John can put a stop to it, he might be able to parlay that favor into a chance to save all their lives—but he’s going to need help from someone he hasn’t spoken to in years. Someone he wasn’t always…all that kind to. Someone…or some…Thing?
Coming in January 2024…. An 8-issue series will reunite Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell.
I was at the panel when they announced this book for the first time at NYCC. One of the greatest injustices in modern comics is how Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell’s incredible Hellblazer run was cut down by supply chain shortages in the midst of the pandemic when it was on pace to be the best Hellblazer run of all time. When they announced they were coming back, I yelled so loud that they threw signed copies of both prior trade volumes of the series at me. Highlight of the con.
Right, the “Sandman Universe” sub-brand is part of Black Label, so all those related titles are set in the same continuity, adjacent to the DC Universe going back to Dark Nights: Metal.
Doctor Destiny plays a pretty big role in the first volume. Morpheus meets Wesley Dodds, and Mister Miracle, and Martian Manhunter. Death of the Endless helps the original Element Woman pass on. The DC universe has always been a part of Sandman.
