Actually, every Villain is the Hero in their own story, and to place societal norms today on a Neanderthal, who’s been alive 50k years, seems inappropriate. Just because, I personally think it’s wrong, doesn’t mean it is. Also, he was my character in Mafia once upon a time.

If I recall Hawkman was quite evil just recently in his own title, and didn’t seem to change his customs. Also, I will remind you that Vandal Savage during the Demon Knights storyline wasn’t a villain.
