I feel you @big_george1973.70935 . I was in exactly the same place you describe yourself when I came on board with the DCU. I was here for the original shows; Titans and Harley Quinn are what got me here. And also like you, I’d hit the rewards page collecting points (I’ve never cashed a single point in ). And I never went to the community until I wanted to find out how I could gain more points. What I found was so much more.
I wasn’t a comic reader either, not since the early 80’s anyway, but I knew my way around the core characters of DC pretty well, so I thought. And let’s be honest, the selection here was so large that I wouldn’t know where to start anyway. Then I stumbled across a post about a reading club, then another, and another. I found that I could read through three or four books a week that tied into a larger story arc about the characters that I thought I knew, but honestly I had no clue. I found other characters that I’d only heard about in passing. My eyes were opened to new worlds, and reading about them was every bit, if not even more entertaining than any show or movie could provide. But more than that, I found people in the community that were just as into the stories that I was reading as I was, and they enjoyed discussing them with me.
From that it has grown. I find that I will read a full storyline or read through a complete series, whether part of a reading group or on my own. Many of the community members are so knowledgeable of the content that I am constantly guided to more and more issues to check out. New and old characters, places, and stories, the writers and artist, the community members themselves; This is where I find the real nutrients of DCU.
I encourage you to look into the community, find a topic that is of interest you and engage. That’s what I did and why I am so happy to find out that DCUI will be here after the first of the year.
Maybe it’s just because the morning is so busy, but this kind of makes me want to cry. Please know that we do note the way people are feeling about this platform and its offerings and sharing it up the chain, both positive and negative. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here in the community. We’ll keep making it better and better for you.
If you’re interested in another great resource, one of our wonderful members made this Recommendations List based on key characters. It’s not the same as discussing what you’ve read with a group, but it’s a fun browse if nothing else
