Oh, no. Ch’p is not simply an animal in Green Lantern armor.
He is a H’lvenian, a sentient species from sector 1014 that evolved from squirrels (and foxes and beavers, etc). Sure they live in the woods and dine on nuts, but they live in neighborhoods of houses, have jobs and relationships, wear clothes and carry suitcases.
There’s a lot of gaps in the issues of Green Lantern v2 currently available, so his first appearance and focus stories aren’t there, but he pops in the last three issues post-Crisis (starting with #198)… or you can just jump in to the smaller team and easier to follow story when they change the title to Green Lantern Corps in issue #201.
