I don’t see any real advantage to tying a new series down to the DCAU continuity. It would be different if BTAS existed in a bubble where no follow-up shows had ever arrived, but by now, too much of that universe’s future has been defined by Batman Beyond and Justice League.
If WB wants to recapture something from the series, how about focusing on some of the artistic techniques the show used to differentiate itself from every other Saturday morning cartoon of the time (or since, including its sequel series)? And while they’re at it, how about taking some inspiration from HBO’s Spawn animated series?
