Here’s what you do to guarantee a copy by the time your library receives the book:

  • Waltz into your library with a 3x5 card, a Sharpie marker and some duct tape.

  • Mosey over to the graphic novels section.

  • When nobody is around, write “I doth declare that I have initial dibs on World’s Finest volume 1, due on March 7th. This placard is a legally binding document granting me said dibs to said book. Thank you and, in the worlds of Paul Harvey, good day.”

  • Tape that sucker to the shelf with as much duct tape as you have, then smoothly waltz out of the library, knowing the book will be yours, come March.

Easy-peasy!

Alternately, my library allows three suggestions a month. I could suggest it as a purchase and if it’s accepted, then I’m automatically first in line on the holds list.
