Swamp Thing coming back to DC proper was a highlight for me, past that I just remember everyone that had been killed off the previous couple years suddenly were feeling much better.
SAGA, TRANSFORMERS VS GI JOE by SCIOLI, and all of those COMIXOLOGY books get super top marks. Voice would crap out singing the praises for that T vs GiJ series. For a week that started rocky, a crazy strong finish. And THANK YOU GARTH ENNIS. I’m loving the PEACEMAKER show, but happy that the tone of the book was more serious. The PEACEMAKER revial is real!
And I just hit 150 comics in 2022!!!
I have read 72 comics with 6 TPBs/Hardcovers in the month of January. I did start the Batgirl of Burnside omnibus and have plans to keep on keeping on with that book. I love Batgirl but I am not sure about the Burnside era. I see the potential but after reading Gail Simone’s amazing run, there is a lot to live up to.
DC Highlights:
Batgirls 1 & 2 - This is an amazing book and I am excited to see where the story leads.
Wonder Girl 4-7 - I am really enjoying this story. One thing that I have noticed is that the title is Wonder Girl and advertised as the Yara book, but it seems more like a team book of characters that also were Wonder Girl at one point or another. Getting Batgirls vibes here and that isn’t a bad thing. Because of this and Batgirls, I will read Robins once the series is complete.
Non-DC Highlights:
Madame Mirage - Paul Dini has weaved a masterpiece with a reveal that surprised me. This seems to be a little-known Top Cow title from 2007 or 2008. If you can track it down, definitely read it. I was lucky enough to grab it from my local comic shop.
Paper Girls 6-10 aka TPB vol. 2 - This is a great story and I need to pick up volume 3 or just throw cash at the complete collection that was recently released. This story has gone from interesting sci-fi to completely bonkers sci-fi and I am here for it.
SFSX 1-7 aka TPB vol. 1 - This was suggested to me by my LCS guy. Very glad I picked it up. The art isn’t the best but the story of a future that is based on censorship in more ways than one had my attention. This is not for the kiddos but I do suggest reading it.

Finally read THE SCORCHED, the big SPAWN team-up book. Did it make much sense to me, a way far removed person that hasnt been reading SPAWN for 25,30 years? Hell no.Will I add it to the pull? Hell no. Was it exactly what I thought it would be, a book seemingly lost in time, all guns/knives/swords/etc blazin? Oh yeah. And it had Russians. In my life, I’ve spent 6 bucks on way more ridiculous books, so no regrets. Will I revist this series if I manage to survive the big Spawn read-thru of 2022?..heh,heh,heh
121 for the year. Should I be embarrassed to post on a DC forum that I mostly read Marvel this month? Well, sometimes I get on a kick like that…
Almost done Wonder Woman (2006). I re-read all of her earlier stuff last year and will be re-reading up to the present day this year. I just like her that much.
To get 2,022 in 2022 I need to read an average of 168.5 books per month. I was a little burned out from last year so took it easy this month. I’m already feeling a hankerin’ to dig into some more issues so I may be able to catch up a bit in February.
Wanna pad the stats? Read a Marvel event, any Marvel event. SO…MANY…TIE IN BOOKS…
I know that feeling all too well. I don’t like the feeling of reading being a chore, which is where I was at the end of last year and most of January. I am getting out of my slump now though!
This is one of the many reasons why I read Marvel sparingly. DC does the same thing but it doesn’t seem to be as often or maybe with as many book?
I don’t expect to read anything else this month, so for January:

So I’ve read 24 issues. I’ve been busy lately playing games on PS4 or PC and just catching up on shows. I’m going to try to catch up on Detective Comics.
From WhereItsAtville,Ohio: the job just closed for tomorrow, got a stack and tablet full of books, new Peacemaker episode, BEST BLIZZARD EVER?!?
I had a total of 214 comics for the month, which is the most I’ve had since January of last year. This was a rare case of Marvel Unlimited actually overtaking DC Universe in percent read, although not by much. My MU reading was made up mostly of Ultimate Spider-Man, with a few issues of Byrne’s Fantastic Four and some of the new Infinity Comics thrown in for good measure. I’ve read USM before, but not in its entirety (I ended up drifting off and reading other things about halfway through the second series), and not all at once. I knew I liked what I had read, though, so I figured this year would be a good time to start over. I’m nearly at issue 70, and will probably be done with the first series by the end of February. It’s probably Bendis’ best work, honestly. Everything comes together so well and the dialogue is just great; it’s natural, but still flow-y and fun to read.
Another big focus this month was actually Bendis’ Superman run, which I swear is a coincidence. I didn’t intend to go on a Bendis Binge, but honestly, I’m glad I’m doing it. I won’t say that his Superman is the best run the character’s ever had. There are a lot of… questionable choices that I don’t love, and there are times when it feels a bit all over the place. But BMB clearly understands Superman as a character, even if he doesn’t quite have a hold on what makes a good Superman story. There’s this scene early on that I just love, where Superman stops by the Planet for one reason or another, and Perry White kind of quietly pulls him to the side and starts to ask him a question. Before he can even get the words out, Superman responds with “I just checked. The cancer’s still gone.” or something to that effect. There’s so many of those great little character moments where Superman is just a super nice person, and I feel like those are so often forgotten about or get lost in all the high stakes chaos. But Bendis really takes his time with it, and it really carries a lot of the run. That being said… I’m really supposed to believe that a seventeen year old kid just kind of accidentally created the United Planets? Really? Like, I’ve always felt like the Legion comics have sort of implied that the UP was formed after centuries of trial and error, but here it’s just an off-handed remark by Jon that gets it going. It’s kind of… bizarre, almost. A lot of the Jon stuff is really strange, and while I still don’t love aging him up, I think there have at least been good stories out of that (namely Son of Kal-El) so I can’t say it was entirely pointless or bad, it just doesn’t come across the best in the run by itself.
There’s also been a good deal of mid-80s Batman goodness, but that’s a story for another time. I finally got back into the Injustice 2 tie in, too, and while Injustice certainly isn’t my favorite story ever, Taylor does a much better job with the sequel. Also, he gave Starro a Red Lantern ring, which, yeah, that’s makes sense and I’m a little surprised it took this long.
Finally, I reread Tom King’s Vision. Still possibly my favorite comic story of the 2010s, with only Spider-Man: Life Story or the Fraction/Aja/others Hawkeye possibly beating it out. Oddly all Marvel books and also oddly pretty much the only Marvel stories that would make it on that list. Either way, I see rereads of the other two coming in the future.
Anyway, it’s time for everyone’s favorite part: GRAPHS!
Overall split:
Day by day number breakdown:
Wait, you are in Ohio?!?!
Almost smack in the middle, Centerburg bein none to far. The pick your poison forecast is a thick sheet of ice, dusted with snow to the south OR a foot+ of snow coverin a thinner sheet of ice to the north.
Oh wow! You are sort of close to my dad in Croton.
It is snowing right now in the Cleveland area, it has rained a better part of the day so I am sure that will be ice before I wake up tomorrow. I work from home so as long as the power stays on, I will be working.
I have read 123 comics this week. My total for the year is now 623.
Pretty decent week, really. The current bat-books still tripping the trigger. The Justice league vs Legion kinda a let-down, I’ve been pro Bendis this whole time but dude’s known for not sticking his landings, shaky start to the end. And ECHOLANDS still is eyeball melting gorgeous. And AND, omnibus’ are awesome but the most impractical/uncomfortable way to read a funnybook ever.
