Your DC Character Soundtrack

I’m not sure about everyone else, but as a writer, I often come up with my best story ideas because of music. Sometimes songs will even remind me of favorite characters from comics, books, or television shows.

Are there any certain songs that remind you of characters from DC Comics? I’ve always found it fun to see just how differently we view the same characters and wanted to see what others think in the context of music. Please post songs that remind you of certain characters. If you would like to share why, please feel free to do so.

Here is a list of some of mine just to get the conversation started:

(Everyone knows I am a big JSA fan, so I will start there)

  • Power Girl: All About That Bass - Meghan Trainor
  • Wildcat: Candy Man - Christina Aguilera
  • Nuklon/Atom Smasher: (Al has 2 songs depending on era) Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime or Radioactive - Imagine Dragons
  • Sand: Silent Lucidity - Queensrÿche
  • Black Adam: Ride The Lightning - Metallica (you expected anything else?)

And of course some non-JSA characters:

  • Martian Manhunter: Veteran Of The Psychic Wars - Blue Öyster Cult
  • Deathstroke: In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company - The Dead South

I had ideas for more but my mind went sort of blank when I sat down and put my hands on the keyboard. (The kids running in and out of the room and getting interrupted by phone calls hasn’t helped either)

Anyway…I’m more interested in your list than mine. I hope we can have some fun with this and keep it mostly family-friendly.

The Star Spangled Banner- Stargirl

I hadn’t thought about this much before, but the theme from Top Gun works well for Hal Jordan.

My daughter’s choice for Stargirl is: Shake It Off - Taylor Swift

(mine not so much)

My choice for Hal would be: Learning To Fly - Pink Floyd

What about These Boots… for Power Girl (maybe any female hero). the ear of the beholder can choose Nancy Sinatra or Megadeth, as desired.

there is a Troggs song called Supergirl, but it’s not a Kara Zor-El kind of Supergirl.

I actually thought about starting a thread like this, but in terms of what songs would be good to play in a hypothetical trailer for “[Hero Name]: The Movie”. These are the two heroes that I thought of and the songs that I thought would make great trailer songs for them:

Booster Gold - Holding Out for a Hero. Specifically paired with this image:

(Come on, you can’t tell me that this song doesn’t make you want to see “Booster Gold: The Movie”.)

Plastic Man - The Rubberband Man

(Ditto for this. “Plastic Man: The Movie. Coming soon to this theater!”)

Plastic Man does happen to be my least favorite hero ever but this would be my choice for him.

Plastic Man: Pretty Fly For A White Guy - The Offspring

I’d have to think for a bit about Booster…but you know it will be something over the top and cheesy.

If you search “Mixtape Monday” on the Community, there’s a pretty big selection of themed character/group weeks where people submitted songs!

But this one reminds me of Shazam. While they don’t say the actual name, just the BAM IN YOUR FACE pre chorus(?) reminds me of the moments he exclaims “SHAZAM!” and transforms.

EDIT: Almost forgot, maybe this one Booster Gold or something:

@HouseofHorror is reading Swamp Thing books for the last half of April, off the top of my head here are some songs that remind me of Swamp Thing.

A song to help get you in that Louisana mood

True. He is my favorite artist of all time. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert several times. He was the best. RIP Chris. :sob:

It is fun to see the variety of choices that are for the same characters. Everyone sees them so differently.

Some more that have come to mind:

Black Canary: Rolling In The Deep - Adele

Obsidian: I Own You - Shinedown

I think I remember a thread like this?
But either way, the one off the top of my head:
Harley Quinn =

I think this song reminds me of her because of Injustice:Ground Zero and the bench scenes :harley_hv_2:

I’ll have to come back and share more sometime. I enjoy searching for songs that I just think perfectly fit DC characters.

Oh, and
Hal Jordan=

Here’s why:
“Leave Blue-Green footprints that glow in the dark”- just the use of green and glow. And the fact that Blue Lanterns boost the powers of Green Lanterns.
“Hey, Mr. Spaceman”- the Spaceman is Abin Sur
“Won’t you please take me along”- Abin giving Hal his ring and Hal heading to Oa
“I won’t do anything wrong”- Foreshadow to Parallax

I also think the tone of the song suits a whimsical approach at Hal learning more about his abilities and the aliens that he now knows are out there and the mistakes and such that comes from that.
