I notice that I enjoy reading comics in voices of actors who have played the characters. (Either out loud if I’m alone or in my head when people are around.)
For instance, if it’s a light hearted Batman comic I read Batman as Adam West and Joker as Mark Hamill. But, if it’s darker in tone I read Batman as Christian Bale and Joker as Heath Ledger.
Sometimes Joker is difficult because sometimes he’s in between tones so I kind of blend Hamill and Ledger.
Do other people do this while reading comics? If so, what are some of the voices you use for reading some of your favorite characters?
Shamar Moore as Cyborg plus Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil … well for DC at least.
Actually, sometimes Jeff Greenwood’s Batman shows up with Joe DiMaggio’s or Kevin Michael Richardson’s Joker but it’s mostly Conroy and Hamilton for Batman and Joker it’s a combination of Young Justice, Red hood and DCAMU explains the variation. Jason O’Mara if I’ve been in a DCAMU vibe but Conroy and Hamil always win out. Otherwise it’s whatever I’ve binged on the most mist recently basically except for some specific lines. Alan Tudyk with “smile for me!” or Jesse Eisenberg from the entire Hellapad scene and the scene before he released Zod’s Corpse with the Doomsday virus.
For Harley, it’s still Arleen Sorking or sometimes Tara Strong.

Ra’s Al Ghul-John Colicos! I was listening to a recent podcast that discussed Batman Son of the Demon! As this was one of the First ra’s Al ghoul stories I ever read, I was very interested. Now, while the podcast discussed many things about the Graphic Novel, (particularly the pronunciation of the character’s name…(I go with Rrrraz Al Ghoul)
I looked at the copy I owned and remembered that when I first purchased it, My impression was that Ra’s on the cover (of the trade paperback) resembled Baltar on the original Battlestar Galacitica (Played by the late John Colicos) as a result, I always heard his voice when reading Ra’s dialogue rather than Christopher Lee or batman the Animated series’ David Warner…(although after seeing Circle of Iron/the silent flute I started hearing David Carridine’s voice as Ra’s for a while)
Usually in their dcau voices but I’m currently reading Batman 66 base on the adam west batman so I read their voices in their adam west counterparts. For the titans in their DCAMU voices, except for cyborg who i read in his Teen titans voice

if i dont have a specific voice in mind, men talk like one of troy baker’s many voices and women talk like how i sound inside my head haha
also i cant read captain cold in a serious voice because i keep remembering his last name is snart and its just so funny to say out loud that i focus on that instead of the story
The voices I read characters as have changed over the years. When I was younger I read Batman as Adam West (even when he was doing the Dark Knight thing). Then I switched to Michael Keaton and finally Christian Bale. The Joker I read as Caesar Romero, then Mark Hamill. Since The Dark Knight, for me The Joker is kind of a combination of Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger. There have been characters who have consistently had the same voice in my head. Catwoman is always Julie Newmar and Superman is always Bud Collyer.
I confess that I do not do this much. There’s no specific “voice in my head” when I read a comic, unless of course the comic evokes a certain performance for me. For instance, Superman Secret Origin, with the way Gary Frank draws Superman and the nods to the movie, I did find myself thinking of Christopher Reeve while reading. Otherwise, I don’t really find myself basing the voice on anything other than what I read on the page.

Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill as Joker, they will forever be the voices in comic books, I don’t think I could have it any other way and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I grew up watching Batman the animated series over and over again, it has a special place in my heart.
As for everyone else there are a few exceptions but the animated DC universe fills in most of the rest of the voices as I grew up watching the shows and movies first
