MAD Magazine! Weird that the numbers seem to jump but I was never expecting to see that on DCUI!

Very interesting, I’ve never read any Mad Magazines, wonder what’s that like? Looking forward to it.:slightly_smiling_face:
I mostly can’t wait to read Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, Batman89 and Secret Of Supervillains society.

Mad Magazine? Really? This is amazing. I’m not sure what my sense of humor would be if not for Mad Magazine.

Hey @Moderators,
I was reading about the Mad Magazine on Wikipedia, when I saw this picture…
Madhk1
It look so familiar, then I suddenly remembered this…

Whoever thought that Batman: Gotham Adventures was paying tribute to Mad Magazine cover while this issue was mostly a tribute to the memory of Comic book editor Archie Goodwin.:slightly_smiling_face:

That’s a great cover! I love seeing tributes and homages like that.

MAD Magazine! That’s great!

And it’s a bunch of issues at once, rather than rolling out weekly – which is also great!

Because, well… I have a lot of patience. I try to be enthusiastic, and greet each announcement with optimism. But the slow-rolling of the actual DC archives is extremely frustrating. I feel like fans of the core DCU should be getting more than one book a week.

This is a list of the DCU books that have been released in the archives schedule since January (counting the books scheduled for October): New Guardians 1-12; Captain Atom: Armageddon 7-9; Captain Carrot & His Amazing Zoo Crew 2-16; Secret Society of Supervillains 1-8.

That’s 38 books… fewer than one book a week.

I’m not saying there’s not other great stuff. I’ve really enjoyed revisiting Milestone. I know there are avid fans of Wildstorm, and I’m glad they’re getting served. Sandman was released, which is terrific, and it’ll also be great to page through a ton of MAD.

But there’s no classic Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman on this list – let alone Sgt. Rock, Warlord, or Jonah Hex.

I’ve been subscribing for about a year now, and every month I eagerly anticipate the list of new archive releases. And each month – especially lately, as the Milestone books have waned but the number of slots have risen, I feel like I’m being told, “No soup for you.”

I was excited to see Wetworks complete last month. I thought we might see a new DC book in its slot. To see it be replaced on the schedule by an earlier, much longer volume of Wetworks feels like getting slapped in the face by a fish.

I’m sorry. Like I said, I try to be enthusiastic. And I know these decisions come from higher up in the corporate structure. But please convey that there’s genuine frustration with the trickle of archival DCU material that comes out every month. We’re here because we love DC comics. And for the last year, the core library of DC comics has been pretty sorely neglected.

Please, keep releasing Wildstorm books, and by all means continue releasing Milestone books once the core four titles have been completed. (Start with Worlds Collide, the centerpiece of the Worlds Collide crossover with the Superman books – every other issue of the story is already available!) But please try to include more books from the long history of the DCU itself, from the golden age, silver age, bronze age, and beyond. There’s so much there, and you have a readership that loves it.

Thanks so much for listening.

Thanks so much for the extensive feedback, it is appreciated and I’ll make sure it gets into the right hands

I understand the frustration with getting a lot of issues from one universe whilst others are left untouched, but there’s only so many hours a day and so many people in our team that can manage the archive issues.

I cannot say anything specific, but I can say that there will be 2 or 3 events happening in the next 6 months that will have a positive affect on the backlist issues. Keep your eyes peeled, it sounds like we’ll be doing a few things that will appeal to you!

Thanks so much for your quick reply!

I really do appreciate your team’s hard work in all of this. And I also understand that big things like this MAD drop don’t happen by themselves, and that also takes effort and humanpower.

I guess I’m just saying that, in the future, as these things are planned, maybe consider spacing out the niche-universe/imprint items so that we’re not getting a weekly flood of one basic flavor with no end in sight. It’s GREAT that we’ll get all of Stormwatch available. I know that book’s fans will love it. And I’ve heard that the Wildstorm books are a little easier to process than older books, which is part of the reason we’re up to 5 books a month now. But I’m just frustrated. Thanks for letting me express that, and for conveying it to the powers that be.

And thanks for giving me hope for those future events. I bet I’ll love them!

Of the new stuff coming out, I’m extremely excited about more Swamp Thing, and The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country… as well as the conclusion of Blue and Gold and more Trial of the Amazons! There’s plenty of other good stuff there – The Flash is the best its been in years, and Rogues is an absolute treasure – but I’ve already bought a lot of that on paper.

I am surprised but pleased to see Mad coming to DCUI. I have fond memories of reading them when I was young. (I hope the fold-ems are shown both open and folded.)

I am looking forward to Nightmare Country and Harley Quinn The Animated series. It will also be good to get Flashpoint Beyond on the site.

I look forward to the continuation of Secret Society and hope it doesn’t trail off and stop early like Captain Carrot.

I hope that after Hardware ends next month, we do get the rest of the first Milestone issue. I want Worlds Collide for completeness sake, but I want to read Shadow Cabinet. I would even be ok with 1 Milestone issue every other week if it meant completion eventually. I am enjoying the Wildstorm issues, but they are not my favorites.

Finally, I can’t wait to see what the events are and what gets added. (My personal hope is more Vertigo to celibrate it’s 30th anniversary and every missing Captain Carrot appearance.)

Of course, I’ll read whatever comes out.

I would imagine that the entire series will be added since it is all already digitized. (And has been for nearly five months now).

Love to see more HQTAS material! Will definitely help fill the gap while we patiently wait for season 4  :green_heart:

A big Vertigo drop would be AMAZING! Bring on Sandman Mystery Theatre, Seekers into the Mystery, and Sebastian O!

It’s nice to see such well-spoken, productive comments in the thread above. Terrific.whatzit puts the sentiments of many of us so well. Wildstorm is great… in fact, keep 'em coming! But balancing that output with even one or two of the oft-requested MIA titles each month would go a long way.

Incidentally, not a single new addition to my beloved 1970s horror anthologies (House of Mystery, House of Secrets, etc.) for Halloween? For shame! :skull:

At least theoretically there are some good, spooky issues of MAD in this gigantic drop, right? Thank you so much for this and huge congratulations to everyone involved in the undertaking!

Also: WildC.A.T.s #20 is the final issue by James Robinson, with no subsequent issues announced for DCUI so far. Issue 21 begins Alan Moore’s run. Perhaps they won’t be continuing with the series after this month?
