What’s New on DCUI 1/12: A New Era in Gotham City!

Just checked the calendar…even after a week that felt like a year, it’s somehow still only January 2021! But for anyone in need of entertaining distractions (read: all of us), we’ve got a plethora of new offerings to read on DC Universe, plus plenty of fun topics to discuss on the Community.

DC DIGITAL FIRST COMICS

It would be difficult to resist the combination of Harley Quinn, writer Mark Russell (The Flintstones, Wonder Twins, the upcoming Future State: Superman vs. Imperious Lex) and artist Laura Braga (DC Comics Bombshells, Future State: The Next Batman)—luckily, you don’t have to! Harley Quinn: Make ‘em Laugh #1 debuts on DC Universe this Wednesday, with Harley taking on the terrifying threat of the gig economy. And if you’ve wondered how Metropolis might fare without Superman to protect it, wonder no longer, as Superman: Man of Tomorrow #12 by Robert Venditti and Scott Hepburn tells the inspiring story of what happens when the Man of Steel isn’t around to defend his home turf.

TITLE ISSUE DATE
Injustice: Year Zero 6 1/11/2021
Titans Together 3 1/11/2021
Harley Quinn: Make 'em Laugh 1 1/13/2021
Batman: Gotham Nights 15 1/14/2021
Swamp Thing: New Roots 6 1/14/2021
DCeased: Hope at World’s End 10 1/15/2021
Superman: Man of Tomorrow 12 1/15/2021

NEW COMICS

It was no easy task for James Tynion IV to take on the reins of Batman writer after Tom King’s epic run on the series—but he’s managed to make the title all his own, introducing buzzworthy new characters like Punchline and redefining the Clown Prince of Crime in “The Joker War.” You can get in on the ground floor with Batman #86 by Tynion and artist Tony S. Daniel, the first chapter of “Their Dark Designs” and the start of Tynion’s Batman era. Then in Young Justice #12, it’s a Wonder Comics family reunion, as the titular team is joined by Naomi and the Wonder Twins to answer some big questions, like: Where did Connor Kent come from? Why doesn’t anyone remember other than Bart Allen? And how does it all connect to Jinny Hex?

Batman #86 is fantastic! When great writing and great art are combined, you get magic in a comic book.
