What exactly is the “Year of the Villain?”

I have been hearing a lot about Year of the Villain but I haven’t actually figured out what it means. What is it exactly?

It’s a sort of event thing. It’s mostly marketing to push the current stories in Justice League, Batman, and some other series by loosely retconning a connection between them. There will probably be a main storyline involving Perpetua.

It’s DC’s new big crossover summer event centered around Scott Snyder’s Justice League run.

Why do events tend to sell so much better in the summer?

Basically, Lex Luthor has decided it’s time to use all of his resources to let Doom reign over Justice. So he’s making an offer to every single person who has ever served Doom an offer to make them stronger. Every major title in the DCU will feature one villain who will be using Lex’s offer to win. The event will feature two different main story lines

  1. Justice - Doom War the main story
  2. Event Leviathan - A detective story
  3. Superman/Batman - 6 heroes are sleeper agents for Doom!
