Didn’t even know this was a thing happening, but here is the trailer. A documentary looking at the history and legacy of DC Comics. Got some comic writers, people who’ve worked on TV and movie adaptations, going all the eay to the beginning to the modern day. Looks like it’ll even touch on Milestone Media. Looks promising!
Whoa! Love those shots of the inking process I’m really interested to see if they go over the actual art going into these comics. (Reminds me of those Nickolodeon commercials where they’d teach you how to draw some of the characters …)
Also peeped a shot of my boy Static in there … you’re right, they may very well touch on Milestone.
I’m very excited for this one! Maybe we should do a watch-along for it sometime next month…
Oh dang I’d be down
Cool! But I hate exclusive streaming documentaries, ugh.
Looks interesting. I will definitely be watching this.
It does look interesting. The WB 100 series is well done, I’ve only watched a few pieces. I’m glad they are doing this while some folks, like Paul, are still around and I hope the people putting it together did at least consider whatever archival footage there was. I’m not really up for a lot of talking head conversations with people just because they are movie synergistic (e.g. the rock); I’d rather hear from actual people with some history with the stories and books.
Got a few more nuggets of info:
Episode 1 - focuses on the creation of rhe DC Trinity and the company’s post WW 2 struggles
Episode 2 - discusses the Suoerman movies, DC’s earliest black heroes and their experimental Vertigo imprint
Episode 3 - focuses on Milestone Media, representation in comics and the company’s plans for the future
I’m definitely curious to see what they do with this, though I’m also just as curious about what they leave out. I’m reminded of the bit of controversy that came after Disney released their Stan Lee documentary, and I’m curious to see how honest of a look this will be and how much they’re going to try to shy away or retcon some of their past.
I’ll definitely take a look at it. I am hoping it covers some of the more obscure parts of DC history and not just focus on the Trinity.
Micheal Uslan hasn’t been a meaningful contributor to DC’s creative endeavors in decades - not sure how they see him as a draw for these. But for the most part, the trailer seems to recognize there’s certain talking heads that we’ve seen a hundred times and others that we haven’t.
We’ll know in the first 15 minutes whether this any substance or not, because they’ll either discuss the circumstances of unsavory Harry Donenfeld muscling out Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson as the company’s owner or they’ll skip over it (which will mean the whole affair is a puff piece, which we’ve already seen plenty of). Not to suggest that Wheeler-Nicholson’s treatment was the crime of the century or anything close, but the ouster is a critical part of DC’s history. Running second to that is probably the uncomfortable transition from (Flash artist) Carmine Infantino to Jeanette Kahn as the publisher of DC comics
