I was referring to Brian Azzarello’s “DC First Wave” series or whatever you want to call it; it was sort of an alternate universe that ditched superpowers and focused on a noir themed setting. In addition to a gun-wielding Batman and Indian-American Black Canary, the other characters featured in “First Wave” were old pre-superhero public domain pulp heroes such as Doc Savage, The Avenger, the Spirit, and Rima the Jungle Girl. The series started in 2009 but was cancelled 2 years later when DC lost the rights to those characters.
