I’d prefer if the continuity would continue to move forward. Elseworlds is a great mechanism for telling Barry Allen stories without giving a middle finger to years of reader and writer investment. Or simple flashback stories. Or dreams. Or any number of literary devices.
The Legion’s “5 Years Later” storyline is great example. Change all the rules; move the story forward; and, don’t look back.
Post-Crisis Hal Jordan was one of my biggest favorites. And I kind of stopped reading comics when Parallax happened. It was so arbitrary and poorly planned. But then, years later to make him Spectre was also bizarre. And then finally, to revert the whole thing was just ridiculous.
It was like, “Wow. That really ticked off some fans. Let’s make him the Spectre; that’ll make them happy. Hmm. That didn’t work either… Screw it. Let’s just start over.”
