I’ve just returned from spending time with extended family. I am deeply appreciative of the honor being given to me this month. Judging by those before me, I’m in good company. Rather than respond to each of you individually, I hope you’ll accept this broader, more elaborative posting. As I’m sure most of you know by now, how I love to ''sound off." 
As it turns out, today is also the birthday of a young cousin of mine. Someone I’ve recently introduced to the world of comics (age appropriate, of course). I wish I had a picture of the culture shock expression on her mother’s face, when we entered my local comics shop, for the first time today. As for my little cousin, you’d have thought that she’d just found a new candy store! Places like that were never part of my own childhood, unfortunately. I was lucky if the newsstands, Five 'n Dime stores or the magazine section at Woolworth’s saw fit to set aside some shelf space for the juvenile citizens of our fair city. Archie, Superman, Dennis the Menace, Space Patrol and lots more titles would turn up, on both a regular and irregular basis. Depending of course, on the distribution networks at play.
I don’t think that any of us who grew up back then, ever envisioned the comics world of today. From being for grade school kids, to college level 'kids" now. From the animated flying scenes of the Superman serials, to the CGI animation of the 21st century. How far we have come. Little did any of us know that the Comics Fandom we were part of, would grow to become the DCU website of today. That I am still around, and able to partake in it, with so many others (young & old), is certainly a dream fulfilled. So, to all of you, thank you for your kind and thoughtful sentiments. I continue to be a happy and proud member of this diverse community. 'Nuff said!

Ah, Woolworth’s. Now that was a great store (and their lunch counter was rad, too).
They were key to my comic fandom in my early childhood during the early '90s, as I bought assorted DC and Marvel books from their spinner rack with great enthusiasm.
Being that they were within walking distance of where I lived at the time, Woolworth’s ended-up being the first comic outlet I could walk to (with my brother and/or parents of course, since I was under 10 at the time). Having a comics source within walking distance is always nice.
