Obscurity of DC Presents: Ultra-bscure Book Club, Week 71 (May 5-May 11) --- COFFIN HILL (Pt 3/Conclusion)!

Welcome, @ObscurityofDCClub and other members of the DC Community! Welcome to Week 71 of Obscurity of DC’s Ultr-Obscure Book Club! This week will be the conclusion of a three-week focus on…

Number of Books: 1

Synopsis from dcuniverseinfinite.com: Following a night of sex, drugs and witchcraft in the woods, Eve Coffin wakes up naked, covered in blood and unable to remember how she got there. One friend is missing, one is in a mental ward–and one knows that Eve is responsible. Years later, Eve returns to Coffin Hill, only to discover the darkness that she unleashed ten years ago in the woods was never contained. It continues to seep through the town, cursing the soul of this sleepy Massachusetts hollow, spilling secrets and enacting its revenge. Set against the haunted backdrop of New England, COFFIN HILL explores what people will do for power and retribution.

Now that that’s over with, here are some discussion questions:

  1. What is the significance about the group of killers introduced in issue 14? Do you think Josiah the “prophet” and his group of followers were inspired by any real world examples? If so, which one(s)?
  2. Despite her abrasive attitude toward Eve throughout the series, did you find Ellie, Eve’s mother, a sympathetic character or not? Explain.
  3. What was the significance of the backstory surrounding Lorelei and Ellie, and what is her connection to Officer Lee by the finale?
  4. Of the antagonists introduced in the series (Mel, Ice-fisher killer and Emma), who would you say was the most interesting or compelling to you?
  5. After destroying Emma, freeing the spirits of the forests, and deciding to leave Coffin Hill with Nate, do you find the conclusion to Coffin Hill overall satisfying or not? Explain.
