Obscurity of DC Presents: Obscure Book Club, Week 28 (September 4 - September 10) --- BAT-MITE!

Why hello there, @ObscurityofDCClub and other members of the DC Community! Welcome to Week 28 of Obscurity of DC’s Obscure Book Club! This week, we’ll be focusing on…

Number of Issues: 6

Description from dc.fandom.com: Bat-Mite is a mischievous imp from the 5th dimension with reality-warping powers who idolizes Batman, but usually only causes trouble for his hero. To show his devotion he wears an ill-fitting homemade costume. He is similar to the character Mister Mxyzptlk, an antagonist to Superman who he occasionally teams up with, although instead of acting maliciously he is more of an unintentional nuisance. Other stories have implied that he might simply be a figment of Batman’s imagination. Bat-Mite was created by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff, first appearing in Detective Comics #267. (1959)

Now that that’s over with, here are some discussion questions:

  1. Do you think Bat-Mite knows what he’s saying isn’t true? What makes you think that?
  2. Why do you think Bat-Mite eggs on his enemies/captors?
  3. What do you think is Bat-Mite’s reason for being a hero?
  4. Why do you think Bat-Mite chooses to physically alter so many people/things?
  5. Bat-Mite is typically either considered to be a really funny character or a very irritating character. Do you find Bat-Mite to be more annoying or funny? Something else? Explain.
