Obscurity of DC Presents: Obscure Book Club, Week 109 (May 12-May 18) --- LISA JENNINGS!

Why hello there, @ObscurityofDCClub and other members of the DC Community! Welcome to Week 109 of Obscurity of DC’s Obscure Book Club! This week, we’ll be starting a two-week focus on…

LISA JENNINGS!!!
AGE SUGGESTION: 12+

Number of Issues: 7 (Please only read issues 701-707)

Description from dc.fandom.com: Originally, she was a school teacher who found a sunstone which endowed her with Kryptonian superpowers. At first, Jennings was an enemy of Superman, but in the end, she reformed and decided to use her powers for good.

Now that that’s over with, here are some discussion questions:

  1. As we can see in issue 703, Lisa does have powers even at the start of the story. With that being said, why do you think she used other people, especially those that were not trained in combat, to fight Superman? Why not just fight him herself?
  2. How do you think Superman knew Lisa was real in his dream?
  3. It’s rare to see a supervillain choose a noble profession like teaching. Why do you think J. Michael Straczynski and Eddy Barrows (Lisa’s creators) made her a teacher?
  4. How do you think Lisa’s actions/words have affected Superman?
  5. What do you think sets Lisa apart from other Superman villains?
