This is a tough question, one that I struggled with when I got on this site. I finally settled on reading a years worth of comics per character to get a feel for whether it was too juvenile for my tastes in that decade. Switched around to different titles after each year’s worth.
I finally settled on 1986 and 1987. This was a great time. Wonder Woman reboot, The Flash changed to Wally, Superman reboot, Dark Knight Returns, followed by Batman Year One, followed by Death in the Family, The Question, Deadman, Suicide Squad. Allan Moore’s Swamp Thing. It’s crazy all the things going on at that time.
To keep up with what everyone is talking about on this site and what will be coming in the future from DC, I bounce back and forth from Rebirth to 1986 & 1987.
If you get exhausted reading from the 30’s obvious starting points are New 52 and rebirth. As said above their are a lot of great reading order websites that have suggested orders.
Why I love about these forums, aside from all the great suggestions and answers from all of you, is the knowledge that I can refer back to this thread to select a series to read. I took a plunge and I am reading DCeased and I’m finding it quite interesting, albeit a bit rushed. I did not know Batman and Superman both had children. I have a LOT of catching up to do. Right now I’m on number 3 of the 6 part series and I’m liking the new spin.
I don’t want to stop there. I want to try other hero’s. I want to try Green Lantern and some others. I’m actually on season 2 of Titans and have gotten somewhat into that series that I want to try reading Titans and Teen Titans. There is a LOT to choose from.
