Teach a newb and share some tips about white with watercolors? Is it a negative space thing, or mixing in with another media? I’ve loved playing with watercolors, but I don’t get that pop! when it comes to contrast

To get white or lighter colors I just use thin washes of a pure color so it’s very transparent and the white of the paper shines through. Sometimes I’ll use an opaque watercolor called gouache for those whites I missed or even a white colored pencil. Just buy some watercolor and experiment like crazy.
