Something can bother me on a deep psychological level and I can still love it so you’re not wrong
He loved it!!! And so you know I’m not taking things out of context, each pic involves some text from the last
When Gotham was coming out, there was a large part of it’s audience that were viewing it in a. Very different way. Than I. How do I put this. People watching it were stanning Epic Badass Alpha Male Jim Gordon and were invested in the show as a police drama. They were not watching it as a show about a villainous dysfunctional found family taking turns ruling the criminal underworld. There were viewers who flipped when Oz confessed his love for Ed (that claimed to not see that plotline coming?? somehow??? did they watch anything for you???) Nowadays, Gotham has a large cult following of queer fans who are going insane over the show but not for the reasons the show was made to be enjoyed. Y’know. Does this make sense. Anyways I am so curious to know how the annoying homophobic Jim Gordon stans watching Gotham felt seeing The Drug Induced Amy Winehouse Love Ballad Hallucination Scene. What was going through their heads, seeing the Penguin seductively serenade the Riddler, bathed in red light with a silly little hat on. What were they thinking about. Did they watch that and genuinely see no queer undertones. God I’d love to like. Interview. One of these people. I’d love to hear their thoughts.
Wrong, when Gotham was coming out everybody knew it was about The Penguin, as that was all the advertising was. Everybody who watched did it for him and to see other villain origins.
Oh oh oh my god so right after Oswald and Edward meet, Edward runs into Oswald hiding in the forest, right? And Oswald is sick, and is like, dying, so Edward takes him back to his apartment and helps nurse him back to health. Right. Are you following me. In season f o u r, Oz freezes Ed, then Crazy Riddler Obsessed Woman That’s In Love With Edward saves him. Right. Nurses Edward back to heath. Right. This is a parallel. This is something. Right. Is this anything.
Oswald. About Isabella. To Edward. You agree.
Lmfaooooo yeah…
Oooh. I could see it.
Still working on my Nygmobblenotes. Reviewing Oswald and Edward’s relationship from a semi-analytical standpoint is very interesting. The foundation of their friendship is established in just their first 23 minutes of screentime together, over the course of season one and two. At the 23 minute mark of their time together is when the Mayor Penguin arc starts. From there, things pick up the pace and we race towards tragedy. 39 minutes into their friendship we get the “But what good is love if it’s one sided? I have no choice but to confess my feelings to Ed.” scene. Lord. We still have just about 3 hours left. And things are such a rollercoaster from here.
He was my best friend in Mamam Mantis’s class. Also my worst enemy. There were only 2 of us in the class.
Ah, you also remember that this character is the worst kind of predator who used Terra in all the wrong ways?
also side note i’m so obsessed with this picture (don’t exactly know why) but yeah i have it on display in my room
I love it! Looks so awesome.

of course it does
Fun fact, most of my posts in this thread sit in a google doc for a day or two while I revise them 90 times to try and make it coherent as possible. Sometimes I’ll get a random thought I need to post about and so I’ll jot it down for whenever I have time to make the post.
Well, last night, I woke up around 4 AM and wrote this down.
So yeah, time to talk about the weird ass birds.
The episode How The Riddler Got His Name is a lot of things. “Weird as hell” being one of those many things. You all may recognise the name of the episode, because it’s the one I never shut up about. It’s the episode after the “death” of Oswald. It’s the episode where Ed and Lucious interact the most. It’s the Drug Induced Amy Winehouse Love Ballad Hallucination Episode.
At the end of the episode, we get one of our many pier scenes. Except, unlike the others, it’s not Oswald and Edward there, it’s Edward and his drug induced hallucination of Oswald. This is the scene where Edward finally “moves on.” He dumps the hallucinogens in the water, in the same place Oswald fell when Edward shot him in the gut. It’s a sad scene. It’s tragic. We get this dialogue that basically broke my heart:
And the whole time this is happening, there are these ridiculous looking birds. It’s so distracting. And I couldn’t find any gifs of the scene so I made my own (+ the video clip) because it is so important to me that you guys see these birds.
Dear lord. Just look at them. Those cannot possibly be real birds, can they? They are so distracting. They look dumb. But. I was thinking. Was it an artistic choice to include them? Could the inclusion of these weird little creatures have been an intentional part of the scene?
There are a dozen pier scenes (not always with Os and Ed) in this show. In all the other scenes, the birds are present, but not in such a weird, in your face, fake-looking way. But what’s different about this scene? Edward is on the hallucinogens, talking to “Oswald.” Could these birds be a part of Edwards hallucination? (please stay with me I promise I’m not crazy I know I sound crazy right now I’m not I promise this is going somewhere.)
Seagulls often symbolize traits like gluttony, thievery, and gossip. But apparently, seagulls also symbolize mentorship, protection, family, and guidance (and in some cases parenthood). The sighting of a seagull is sometimes associated with a symbolism of cunning, perseverance, fearlessness, survival, and freedom. The descriptions of what seagulls symbolize all fit Oswald, no? Many associate Oswald with the sin of gluttony. Gluttony, the 6th deadly sin, is all about overindulgence in everything. Material possessions, food, alcohol. But Oswald is more than that, he’s cunning, has perseverance, and an ability to survive. Oswald was also a kind of mentor to Edward as he started his path to becoming the Riddler. All these different symbolisms fit Oswald. So were the birds intentional? Or am I overthinking things? Did I just spend an hour on this for no reason? Possibly. This post is so off the rails.
Been re-reading Tynion’s Batman run, thinking about the Unsanity Collective and especially Miracle Molly. I hope they are all right, hope that MM is free and helping others
