Considering that Hardware is making trouble with pretty much everyone in the the new Milestone universe, I don’t think he will have time to catch-up with his old buddy Steel in the Ironworks series. Thinking about the good old times they had together. 
In that case I think it would be actually kind of cool to see Batwing take his place. I think seeing these two genius Black superheroes in a issue together would honestly be pretty great. Besides the obvious similarities, they probably have some good conversation about how their role is unique compared to the other heroes in their respective cities and how they view their inspirations; Batwing/Batman and Steel/Superman.
