CONSOLATION EAST: SINS OF YOUTH

After Wonder Girl gives an impassioned speech on TV about adults mistreating teenagers, Young Justice decides to hold a rally at Washington, D.C. The JLA, JSA and Titans all show up, but once all the heroes are gathered in one spot, Contessa and Klarion enact their plan to create chaos. Klarion the Witch Boy turns all the adult heroes into teenagers and all the teenaged heroes into adults.

I’m including Wonder Girl’s speech because it’s worth highlighting in it’s own right, not becuase it matters so much for this trial.

Wonder Girl’s speech:

Part of growing up is learning how to survive in the world. Naturally, we all want to know that our parents love us and want to watch out for us. And yes, there have been tragedies that are related to teens. But the result has been paranoia. Teens have replaced postal workers as America’s cliched powder kegs. Either we’re “dangerous,” or else so helpless that we need schools turned into armed camps to “protect” us.

Freedom of expression becomes completely stifled, lyrics to music become suppressed, and everything gets blamed on Marilyn Manson or something. It’s like…everyone likes to look at things as black or white, except there are hues of grey and it’s all somewhere in the middle. Well that’s what teens are–in the middle of being kids and being adults. Except we’re not as cute as kids, and adults condescend to us. Treat us like kids while expecting us to be adults. No, “act” like adults. That’s what we’re told. Like it’s all a game. And it’s like adults are saying, “We have to help teenagers so they don’t napalm a nursery school or something.”

Well y’know what? We’re not the enemy, and we’re not babies to be protected! Maybe, like, what we need is less protecting and more being listened to.

Highlights:

  • We’re going to mostly set aside the original plot for this one. It’s too specific to the original characters involved.
  • Pick at least three of your members and age them down to children/teenagers. Consider those characters to be more emotional, impulsive, and less powerful than their normal selves.
  • If you wish, age up any or all of your other heroes as it supports your narrative/case statement
  • Produce your own conflict/scenario against de-aged/up-aged versions of your team’s villains. A conventional “battle” will suffice. Entertainment value will count for a little more this time as you won’t be facing the exact same conflict as your opponent.
  • Optional–create “kid” names for your heroes. Refer to the event’s image above for examples.
  • Optional–work Klarion into your conflict to age your heroes back to normal

Instructions:

  • Pick the league you feel would best prevail in a de-aging scenario. If the team captain supplies a story/case, take that into account for its plausibility and entertainment value.
  • Add your perspective in the comments! Use your best judgment with spoilers
  • Team captains: Refer to the highlights section for guidance for your input
  • Winning team: when the poll is over feel free to share your perspective on “how it all went down” in as extended a manner as you wish.
