INVESTIGATIVE REPORT: Character of the Year, Every Year

Fascinating work.

It’s funny how certain years are seriously stacked (1940, with Flash, Green Lantern, Catwoman and The Joker all in competition with The Boy Wonder), but then you get a year like 1985 where the second Hourman beats out Pariah, Lady Quark and The Anti-Monitor.

Very, very cool stuff!

Rick Tyler was a major character in a long running team book! More people know The Anti-Monitor, sure, but he’s barely a presence.

@HubCityQuestion Just curious, what dataset(s) are you using to generate these investigative reports? And, for this one, what concepts are you using to build the construct of cultural impact?

I look at numbers of appearances, frequency of reprints, and representation in media outside of comics.

@HubCityQuestion Have you built your own database or are you using something public?

I cross-reference multiple sources but would prefer not to disclose them.

Respect.

You know I am not going to forgive you for choosing Hal Jordan ;), but well done! It’s a truly interesting read. Thank you.

@hubcity. That’s really cool. But isn’t the Batman who laughs the most significant edition last year the Batman who laughs?

@Nathan.Payson Based on his criteria, it would make sense that Silencer was chosen, because she immediately was featured in other media, on CW’s Arrow.

I think in a couple months it won’t be though because the silencer’s popularity has rapidly declined.

Although I meant 2017

@Nathan.Payson Yeah. I’d have to agree with you there.
