House of Crime 58 - The Kitchen

The Kitchen was a bittersweet read for me, as it reminds me of that last gasp of Vertigo before they shuttered the doors. Maybe the final true hit series to carry the name.

One thing it does feel like, though, is that “comic created specifically to be a movie” type of indie comic you see all too often. It’s intensely cinematic, because, well… I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it was a screenplay before it was a comic script. I don’t take kindly to people who view comics as a means to showcase their work and leapfrog into a “better” medium, but that doesn’t make the work unenjoyable.

If that is the case, script>comic>movie, they royally missed the memo with the movie. A lot of it fell flat for me. There were moments that worked but overall, it didn’t work.
