Help! new fan

I’m a new fan of the DC universe as a whole. I love the Batman animated series in the 90s but that is far as I’ve gotten. Anybody have any suggestions on what to start with here for comics to read? I really like the Flash and I’m also interested in Nightwing

For anyone entering comics and loves Batman: YOU MUST READ BATMAN YEAR ONE. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed

Welcome! I’m vicariously excited for you to be jumping into this for the first time! Here are some great “where to start” primers with links to the comics

Justice League (Tower of Babel is one of my favorites) https://www.dcuniverse.com/news/where-start-reading-justice-league-comics/

If you like Nightwing, try the 1996 Nightwing series. The first seventy issues or so are excellent.

Paul Dini’s run on Detective Comics (starting with #821) is pretty good too, so if you like BTAS, that’s another place you could look.

Batman: Hush (starts with Batman #608, if I recall correctly) is a good sort of “starter” Batman story that introduces a lot of the supporting cast and rogues gallery, but is also cool in its own right. The last story arc of Dini’s Detective Comics follows up on Hush. There was another story called Hush Returns in between the two, but I’ve heard it’s bad.

For the Flash, Mark Waid’s run can’t be beat. It begins around issue #61 of the '87 series, but the best storyline from it picks up at the end of #73, so you might try starting there.

I forgot my other personal recommendation, Batman: the Court of Owls (described and linked in the Batman primer above), followed by Death of the Family.

Welcome, glad to have ya!

The above recommendations are solid. Here’s a few of my own that pertain to your highlighted characters:

-Batman: the Hush arc from issues 608-619 of the original volume of Batman (which ran from 1940-2011)
-The Flash: Geoff Johns’ run, which began in The Flash (1987-2009) #164
-Nightwing: Chuck Dixon’s run which starts with Nightwing (1996-2009) #1

Enjoy =)

Yeah, the 90’s run of Nightwing is awesome. Welcome to DC.

It would appear I’m a bit late, but I suppose I can still suggest Francis Manapul’s run of Flash, which began around 2011 (he’d drawn it before then, too, but I would suggest starting here). It’s a good primer to the Flash, but also nust fun to read no matter how much you know.

Also, it’s worth noting that for much of Paul Dini’s Detective Comics run, Nightwing was actually Batman (due to various circumstances that are probably better left unmentioned for now)
