Happy Aquaman Day! :00_aquaman:

Now I know what you’re thinking: 1) There’s an Aquaman Day? 2) I’ve never heard of it before. 3) When did this happen?

The answer to those questions are simple: 1) Absolutely! 2) That’s because there hasn’t been one. 3) Just now!

I’m planting the Aquaman flag in the ocean floor right now and claiming every September 19th as Aquaman Day!

But why?

Why not??? There’s a Batman Day, There’s a Superman Day, I want an Aquaman Day. And by God, I’m going to have it!

Why September 19th?

Quite simple. Aquaman first appeared in the anthology series More Fun Comics #73 (Cover Date November 1941) in a story entitled “The Submarine Strikes” by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. After a little bit of detectve work, I discovered that it was released on September 19th, 1941.

So today is a day to celebrate Aquaman! You got Aquaman related questions? Let’s hear it! You got Aquaman related theories? Even better! Got awesome Aquaman related artwork, figures, statues, memorabilia, etc? Lets see it!!! Doesn’t matter if it’s from comics, Tv, or movies…its all welcome!

But its not just Aquaman, its the whole Aquaman Universe. Dolphin, Mera, Tempest, Tula, Aqualad, etc are all welcome!

So come join all the denizens of the deep, as we celebrate the inaugural Aquaman Day!!!

(Now I just gotta convince DC Comics to make it official)

This has me asking if there is a Superman Day or a Wonder Eoman Day. Chances are there is and I’m too oblivious to realize when they happen

But back on topic - I’ve read the New 52 Aquaman book and I surprisingly found it enjoyable (surprising because again, not a fan of the New 52 myself). Mera is awesome and I find Black Manta to be very interesting and badass. I read that 6 issue mini-series and found it pretty cool.

Highly enjoyed the 2018 movie too.

Superman Day has been June 12th since it was cleared with the District of Columbia in 2013, to promote the weekend release of Man of Steel. Like the proposed Aquaman Day here, Wonder Woman Day is celebrated on October 21st, the anniversary of her first appearance.

On topic — I’m a huge fan of Dan Abnett’s Rebirth era Aquaman work, and the issues he wrote with Stjepan Sejic on art are a series highlight.

Man, I’ve been procrastinating on that book. I need to start the Rebirth series

Peter David, Geoff Johns, and Dan Abnett runs are my absolute favorites. The Dan Abnett run is criminally underrated. :00_aquaman:

Thats actually a very important issue. That’s where the concept of purple eyes is introduced, which would become the basis for Aqualad’s (Garth) original backstory.

As the clock strikes midnight(Hawaiian Time), our inaugural Aquaman day comes to a close. It was great first go around, got a good amount of people engaged and talking about Aquaman. I will be doing this every year, and hopefully we get people who matter involved so that it can become bigger and better every year. Thank you to everyone who engaged and showed love for our King of the Seven Seas, it truly melts my Atlantean heart. :00_aquaman:

I leave you with one last awesome picture from Dark Knights: Death Metal
