Anyone else underwhelmed for it? In my opinion I find it to be an uninteresting spin. I just don’t see the point of it. It’s not like the New DC is it? Because if so I think I’m done with DC.
It’s mostly not going to impact the main comics once it’s finished after a couple months. I know some of the characters/elements will carry over, but it generally looks like it’s not going to have a huge long-term impact
Man I gotta be honest, I think I’m a little beyond underwhelmed. Not exactly disappointed, but still just not quite excited for it. I understand what they’re trying to do, but it’s not doing it for me. Of course, I already know the problem is that I’m such a stickler for classic things or oldies (writing on pen and paper, music from at least twenty-thirty years ago, Bruce Wayne as the Batman or Clark Kent as superman) so it’s totally biased and opinionated on my end, but I can also imagine I can’t be the only person in that boat who’s not quite ready to let go of those things yet, right? I don’t know. Plus, I feel like DC is trying to go in two different directions with death metal feeling more and more like it takes place at the very end of continuity and the DCU is going to get “reset” or something while future state is a “moving forward” type thing. Again, could just be me, and I could be totally crazy, but I’m almost willing to bet it’s not. Just my two cents
I’ll admit at first I was really excited at a new status quo without certain members of the trinity. Now, I’m just hoping and praying that it actually sticks. I could not wait for the return of the Titans and see where they wanted to Nightwing. Now looking at some of the details it appears that they’re still in the exact same place they are now - Nightwing is still a Batman side character and Titans is more about destroying and killing them so it’s not even worth it for me. If this is the future we’re headed to then I would like to see some development, not the same old things I don’t like now.
At work now will respond more in depth later, I agree with you though!
I think some ideas are good and worth moving on with.
Aquaman, New Wonder Woman and Batman are new directions I agree with.
Sending Supergirl to the moon to get out of Superman’s shadow is so much the worst flavor of DC that I have to call in the Dragon’s Den for a gif:
Personally, I am not in the “the characters need to age and pass the mantle” camp. I like my Clark, Bruce and Diana… especially Clark. I don’t mind changes to each of their status quos… Clark revealing his identity, Bruce losing his money, Diana going back to Themyscira and establishing an embassy in Man’s World. Call me shallow if you want, but I enjoy seeing those three in their suits doing their heroic thing time & again, whether it’s saving the world or rescuing a cat out of a tree. That’s not to say I like everything I read. I’m rather lukewarm on Tomasi’s and Tamaki’s current runs on Detective and Wonder Woman, respectively. I still come back with every issue though, because… well… even with what I find to be mediocre issues, there’s a certain sense of excitement and escapism for me in opening up a comic to see what “they’re up to this week”.
Just because I have a certain preference, doesn’t mean good comics cannot be made otherwise, though. I’ve been reading DCeased Dead Planet, where the Trinity are replaced by Jon, Damian, and Cassie, and it’s been a good read so far, despite my preference for a more conventional comic. What DC is doing with Future State is interesting. They’re catering to both crowds by telling future stories of the same beloved characters, while also telling those of their “successors”. Injecting some new blood and diversity into the talent pool and characters is also not a bad thing in and of itself. I’ll be checking it out, just not with the eager anticipation or outright pessimism that some good folks are exhibiting.
Man, I feel like this is a perfect summary of what I’m feeling and what I was trying to say but exactly. There’s just a certain charm or whatever you wanna call it to having your favorite classics-specifically the trinity for me-go on their adventures and still getting to see that. Like I said I’m a stickler and I’m not quite ready to let go of that yet. With that though, like you said, there are some interesting prospects with this and I’m definitely curious to see what happens. My local comic shop already threw the next batman into a hold system for me and I’m sitting here like, “well I guess I’ll read it now”. I’m also actually kind of interested in the superman war of worlds story, and I feel like especially with it being Clark in his red and blue, it’s got potential (as all the stories in their own respects do). This has been too long of a response but yeah, I agree with you haha.
Not a long response. Makes perfect sense to me. Comics, at least for me, is a pastime… yeah I have my preferences, but I don’t get too hung up on ‘em. I’m much more of a coffee person, but enjoy a cup o’ tea as well, you know ?
I hear that!
So I was making a DC comics shopping list for Wednesday and saw a lot of Future State on my books. I know I’m going to have to read it first so if you have read anything please spoil very little. I hope its gold and I honestly hope they don’t mess up Rebirth because in my humble opinion DC was going down the right track for me. Now I feel like I’m going either be disappointed or happy to be proven wrong. I hope we see good things in our beloved comics; also DC please stop with the universe shake ups for at least oh lets say 10 years! So what are your thoughts on Future State?
I’m personally really excited! I love seeing new spins on classic characters and as more information has come out I’m really liking what I’m seeing. I just called a local comic shop and had them reserve a couple issues for me. Literally the first time I’ve ever done that. Not saying I’m 100% sold. Despite my optimism I still plan to be very critical of the stories. But I’m more than willing to give these characters a chance. I’m hoping these characters and stories are good and sell well so we get some more stuff like it in the future.
I’ve been so excited. I’ve been posting, discussing, and writing about the next era of DC Comics for a long time, and it’s FINALLY HERE!!! It may not be infinite frontier, but I’m so excited to see what these creative teams have in store.
I’m excited to see what John Ridley does with ‘The Next Batman’, I’m excited to see what Red X does in ‘Teen Titans’ and I’m a sucker for anything ‘Swamp Thing’ so I’m looking forward to that one as well. Something about ‘Superman: Worlds of War’ intrigues me as well.
There are ones that I’m really not interested in at all and some where the artwork on the preview or cover has turned me off but why dwell on the negative? There’s enough of that in life. I read comics to escape the real world and to stimulate the child in me along with my imagination, my sense of wonder and my love of characters I’ve known my whole life. Good or bad this whole thing will be over in two months and then, what I’m REALLY looking forward to, is ‘Infinite Frontier’ and where we go from there.
That said, I won’t be reading any of this for a while as I’m going to wait for it to be posted here on DCU Infinite in July. That’s when Future State will start for me and when it does I’ll read every single panel of it.
