Full-time Superhero, Part-time [Insert Job Here]

I was thinking about how certain DC superheroes have day jobs but others don’t and decided to create this thread. I’ll post a job a DC character has with a poll to evaluate whether it is a practical job for a full-time superhero. I’ll edit the job onto the list below. I’m open to suggestions as well.

Let’s start with the big one,

Reporter: excellent idea or poor idea?

Thanks! I’m looking forward to it as well. I figure this one will be one sided but some later ones will be interesting.

(The idea came from me looking for job ideas for Cass. Bookkeeper is the best idea I’ve heard yet but I want sure how practical it would be.)

As Lois said in The Death of Superman writing about yourself in unethical, and superheroes must be ethical.

A good point.

What if you don’t write about yourself though?

Still unethical. Reporters are scum. Clark regularly tells me that. He is so wise.

There was a time when newspaper reporter was a job that could support a person. Those times aren’t now.

I think having to save lives, and get pictures or write before deadlines come would be really stressful. I think the best job for a superhero would be something that has nothing to do with superheroes.

Black Canary working her flower shop is never gonna effect her superhero time and vice versa.

What if she is being put out of business by a rival flower store, and that store gets robbed?

Morality questions like that are always going to come up matter what your profession is.

Spider-Man dealt with a similar scenario that ended up costing him his uncle for not intervening and he learned that great power comes with great responsibility which is what every superhero should remember.

I do not have that problem, because Wayne Enterprises has no competition except Luthorcorp.

Reporter is disapproved! Guess Clark should start looking for something else, maybe something on the approved list will help him!

Next up, after working through the darkest nights Hal Jordan’s day job beware!

Plane test pilot.

Nobody would suspect a guy who can fly is using a plane. Brilliant disguise.

I know a guy who used to test drive for John Deere. He said the hours were really weird. Some weeks everything is still getting worked on so you got nothing, next week, there are 13 different things that need to be tested. It could work for a part-time superhero during those off weeks but for a full-time GL, I don’t see the guardians responding well to, “yeah I didn’t save that planet but I had to test fly a plane or a bunch of people would be out of work for a week.”

Looks like I might have called reporter too soon! It’s currently approved by one vote!

Check it again it’s 60/40 now. Reporter was originally chosen because that person would hear about emergencies before the general public. Clark became a TV reporter in the ‘70sand used super speed to catch criminals while presenting the 6:00 news. That only works for people with powerful superpowers.

Test pilot is just badass cool. I agree that the hours would be weird because the testing would need to be done at all different times and conditions. It’s snowing, we need to test right now so you can’t go help that planet right now.

CSI (Crime scene investigation/ forensics)
