I haven’t enjoyed Tom King’s Batman for a while now, but I like what they’re doing with Detective Comics, so I’ll be dropping the former. How many issues is Tom writing? 100 or so correct? I’ll give it another chance after we get a new creative team, but in the meanwhile, there’s a lot other ways to get a Batman fix. What is everyone’s thoughts on Tom King’s run? If you’re enjoying it, I’d love to know why. It’s always interesting to hear from people who have different opinions.

I dropped it after issue 50. Spending all that time following the series and no payoff for any of it? No thank you. I know it’s building to something with Bane but I’ll wait till we get there to see if it’s worth it.

Some issues are very compelling, but others are King showing how deep and smart he is, really just creating a filler issue.
Yes, yes I am enjoying his run. The War of Jokes and Riddles was the only iffy part of his run for me (and even then, I liked the last two parts).

I love King’s run on Batman. While it will probably read better collected I don’t mind the slow burn. I

I love it. Both Bat titles are very strong at the moment
I have enjoyed it for the most part. King has shown ti very really good at humanizing Bats.
I’m glad you’re all enjoying it. I may give it another chance later on when the rest of the story is released as TPBs.
I’m conflicted. Was not a fan of the result of #50 but loves the 3 issue arc that followed it after. Then #54 was great about his relationship with Nightwing. Since then I have felt less and less interested which was how I felt after #43.
Read the first 2 issues of the current Detective and I was hooked. I’m considering putting Detective on pull and maybe leaving Batman to trades and seeing if I appreciate it more as well.

Ive only recently stared reading current comics again ( my town lacks a stable comic book store) I started Kings run at #45 and have been hooked since. The guy really gets Batman in my opinion. It’s so dark and brooding. I’ve noticed that the general consensus is that # 50 wasn’t very good which I don’t get, I love the whole “can Batman ever be happy” angle. Did people really expect the wedding to go smooth? When has any comic book wedding ever not ended in disaster. I’m just glad it wasn’t the typical theyre at the alter about to say “I do” and (insert any villain here) shows up and wrecks havoc

After what he did to Nightwing and everything in Heroes in Crisis I’ve sworn off Tom King books from now on. But more so than that I just don’t agree with his interpretation of Batman.

I haven’t read it consistently, but I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve read. But even if it doesn’t always (seem to) work, I respect that he’s telling a long, hundred-issue story - and that DC is letting him do it. I just read #51-54 (the Mr. Freeze trial story and a standalone about Bruce & Dick), and absolutely loved them. His seems like a fairly classic Batman (at least post-Crisis) and I think the way he reacts to things like the wedding (i.e., poorly) is in character given what we’ve seen before. I’ve just started King’s Vision series too, and have to say I enjoy his style. Not quite sure how to pinpoint it, but unlike a lot of comics these days, I find myself satisfied that I’ve gotten my money’s worth with his stuff, regardless of whether I explicitly “enjoy” the story or “agree” with it. They make me think and feel more than most. It also helps a lot that he tends to work with some great artists and generally uses the form well.

I’m kind of amazed DC is letting King do this with their highest-profile book. It’s a unique take on Batman that is structurally very different from any previous run, freely experiments with style, and is always interesting even when the experiments don’t work. I don’t love everything about it but overall I find it highly enjoyable.

I read a issue every now and then, I usually skip it. I’ll get back involved when he starts the Bane storyline
