DC History Club: Roy Thomas at DC' August 2020 JLA 193 16 page Insert
Justice League of America 193 had a 16 page insert which starts the story continued in All Star Squadron 1, where we see flashbacks to that event.
Basically All Star Squadron 1.requies that most of the JSA, Wonder Woman,.Superman, Batman and Robin be easily captured, so that a team of thr remaining JSA members join.with non JSA characters to save the day.
JLA 193 in our library does not contain rhe inserts but the version at Comixology does.
Summary of story
It begin with with a race among Wonder Woman Flash.and Green Lantern in tribute to the cover of Comic Cavalade 1 for the March of Dimes, a charity organized by FDR to fight polio.
At this time, Flash and Green Lantern were honorary members of the JSA because they had their own books while Wonder Woman was not yet a member
Flash hesitates for a half second and Wonder Woman wins
Afterwards at a picnic at a park the three are attacked by Solomon Grundy.
Grundy knows GL but not visa versa. The first hint of time travel He defeats the three.
Similarly Sandman is wearing his new Simon and Kirby costume (no more gas mask), Starman and Jonny Thunder are defeated when they investigate a baloon disguised as a pirate ship.
Batman Robin and Superman are also defeated
But Atom. Hawkman and Dr Mid nite defeat their foe.
Liberty Belle and Jonny Quick are shown in their civilian clothing covering the.race as news people
Robotman and Plastic Man are only shown in.shadow.
FDR has been trying to contact the JSA for he has received possible bad news
The morning paper is delivered. It is December 7 1941.
