The Authority (1999) #29
- Mark Millar and Gary Erskine conclude the first series of The Authority with a celebratory wedding between team members Apollo and Midnighter. For the wedding, Midnighter and Apollo swap their traditional colors, with Midnighter in white and Apollo in black. What do you think this means?
**I think it then excepting each other. Apollo is his light and Midnighter is his darkness and together they make something great.
With the book in general it was interesting (a bit confusing being the end) but very interesting. Always wanted to check them out and this definitely intrigued me. Going to add this to my list and go back and read this from the start. Old but definitely got a vibe that this team seems like it would make a cool show.**
Detective Comics (2010) #854
- In Detective Comics #854 , we meet Kate Kaneâs girlfriend, Anna. This is her only comic book appearance, showing up just long enough to dump our hero. What does this early appearance teach us about Kate Kaneâs love life?
**Ultimately itâs something she struggles with and like May heroes that double life plays an effect in romance that can hurt.
As for the book Elegy has definitely been on my list and it bumped up now. The art looked so cool and story hooks you right away.**
Gotham City Sirens (2009) #1
- Gotham City Sirens #1 introduces a new element, Catwoman, into the Harley/Ivy duo dating back to Batman: The Animated Series. How does Selina change the team dynamic? Is three a crowd?**
**I feel she ads that friend they can talk about the other when Ivy or Harls isnât ready or doesnât want to talk to the other est the moment. That or the friend they they can Gang up on when they need. Strangely she seem like something to center those too in there crazy world. The rock to take the hits and help out when needed.
As for the book very interesting and fun start with some twist. Definitely coming all to this one at some point.**
The Low, Low Woods (2020) #1
- The Low, Low Woods is a rare example of the intersection of queer romance and the horror genre. Does this book find the balance between horror and romance?
**A bit hard to tell at the start but it seems like it balances it well. The ideas of romance and horror have always been connected in ways so it at least form what I read in 1 seems to be working out well.
As for the book very interesting. Not much of a horror person but the story does have a nice way of hooking you in wi the mystery elements.**
Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles (2018) #1
- Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles is a story about the struggle for queer rights, set in 1953. Why do you think writer Mark Russell chose this time period? Would this story have worked in a modern setting?
**Iâm not too familiar with that history of queer rights in the 1950s I have a learn a bit about it in past few years those. But in school I didnât hear a thing of it. So I think putting it here educates people about this as not all places such as my school talked about it in history. So while putting this fictional element to attract and teach people about a very real situation and event in history that is often overlooked.
As for the very interesting. The story set does get hook. And the ends duh duh duh moments definitely keeps you hooked.**
Supergirl: Being Super (2016) #1
- In Supergirl: Being Super , Karaâs new friend Dolly is confident in her identity as a gay young woman. What role do you see her playing in Karaâs life?
**I see her being a good friend to her helping her through her struggles. And maybe even a love interest. Whoâs knows where the story will go.
As for the book I was going to start this as it was next in my list so funny how it lined up. Definitely going to finish that u after this.**
Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy (2019) #1
- Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy is one of many comics that explore the bond between Harley and Ivy. Are Harley and Ivy better partners-in-crime, or partners-in-romance? Can a love like theirs based on mayhem be built to last?
I feel theyâre just good partners. Crime romance whatever they bring the best out of each other and will to let them be true to themselves. Sure there is highs and lows but in the end the work through it. There love I donât feel was ever built in mayhem but more of both wanting more. Harley in the terrible relationship with joker and want someone better someone to respect her treat her nice listen and even call her out in her nonsense. Ivy who been iffy with origins and adaption but for at least my interpretation of Ivy as someone who has destain for humanity but yet was one before her transformation and has that want for a connection and also Harley reminding her not all humans are bad there is hope for them to change and learn.
So in short I feel it based off more of growth and want a better life for themselves feather than mayhem and that will last.
Constantine (2013) #1
- By his own admission, John Constantine often makes for a poor hero, and an even worse role model. When queer role models are in short supply, is there also value in including these (much) less-than-perfect characters as queer representation?
Definitely. No one perfect that doesnât exist. It changes definition depending on who you ask so to some John may be perfect to other not. But this showing is great and shows that queer donât have to have the happy go lucky everything goes right life just as similar non queer characters show the same.
- How does the superhero genre parallel the queer experience?
Iâm not sure. I guess maybe as they are not always excepted in the world and theyâre just trying to be them. Like Superman for example. He just wants to help everyone he possibly can and make the world a better place. But people like Lex no donât want them to do that. Supes could solve world hunger and Lex would find a way to hate it because of who Supes is. They live there live and many hide who they are to do so fighting threw hate and disrespect weather itâs a villain or just the average citizen when all they want to do is be them and help the people. I think that could be a parallel.
- How do you feel queer characters are represented in these comics?
