A place to schedule IRL meetups. Maybe at cons, events, or just because.
Cool idea! I’m gonna hold off on posting unless someone else invites because im awkward like that
I’ll be at NYCC in a month, so hit me up if you’ll be there too.
“And now we play the waiting game.”
Ten seconds pass.
“Oh, the waiting game sucks. Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos!”
Anyone else for Hungry Hungry Hippos at a future meet-up?
I’ll bring myself, while you bring yourself and, of course, Hungry Hungry Hippos.
The next event for me isn’t until Dec 3 so I guess I have until then to buy a set of hippos.
Anyone up for a mid-east coast comic show?
Bless you, Sandy Claws.
If you foot the bills, sure, sign me up!
Otherwise…I’m planting a flag for west coasters (and west coast adjacent…ers).
Plants a big DCUI-branded flag in the sand.
That’s some pig flag!
Smh. I was just at GalaxyCon in Austin and was so consumed with making sure my wife enjoyed her 1st con that I didn’t think to see if anyone from here was going to
Good idea for a thread though.
Happy DCUIversary!
Thanks for being such a rad member of our environs and, of course, for all of your wicked-cool custom figures.
I’ve been to tons of events without checking. How was Austin?
Thanks Glad you guys like em (working on one now thats frustrating as hell, but I’m stubborn and I’m gonna make it work
Happy DCUniversary!
Sounds like a certain Cass Cain fan was lurking in the background…maybe as they looked for their next victim to slake their vampiric thirst with?
Arches an eyebrow to a comical degree, ala Dana Carvey’s Church Lady.
Are we feeding on con attendees again? Hmm?
I want to ask who/what it is, but I know the wait will be worth it, so I won’t.
99% fantastic. First 2 days were a learning curve for them, as far as entry goes. We waited 45 minutes outside the building in this intense Texas heat and thought that would be the worst of it. Saturday morning was humbling. We struggled to find decent parking close enough to the venue, then waiting close to 2 hours to get in. It was probably 103, and felt hotter in moments when we were in direct sunlight. I was furious, but Sunday they’d fixed the issue (they were trying to funnel thousands of people through 3 metal detectors ). Aside from all of that- we had a blast
The crowd was too much for my wife at times on Saturday, but when it was I walked her out into the lobby and told her to take her time and let me know when she was ready to head back inside. We had a lot of celebrity photo ops, and they all went off without a hitch.
They had the same problem in Raleigh. 95 degrees plus with thousands of people and three metal detectors. Plus a few of us showed up in cosplay of metal armor put together with magnets. Good luck getting that through a metal detector.
Glad to know it went well though! What did your wife think of her first Con?
Happy Anniversary! Here’s to the DCU action figure genius!
She loved it
I had always said I was going to take her to a Con someday, and when I saw the lineup of guests for this show, I knew this was the one. We got photos with:
The Star Trek Next Generation cast (Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden, and Willl Wheaton.
Chris Sarandon (Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before X-Mas and Prince Humperdink from the Princess Bride) and Ken Page (Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare Before X-Mas)
Andy Serkis (Gollum!! )
Giancarlo Esposito (Gustavo Fring from Breaking Bad)
Mick Foley (legendary professional wrestler)
Armin Simmerman (Quark from Star Trek Deep Space Nine) and Terry Farrell (Dax from Star Trek Deep Space Nine)
Aside from that, we also got to meet and talk with Tim Jacobus, the artist for the Goosebumps books. My wife LOVED that series growing up. I had already taken her to meet R.L Stine twice, so this was high on her list and he was so kind to her. Took photos, signed merch (here he is signing the poster she’d saved since she was a kid)-
He’d said he hadn’t seen one of them years.
Aside from all that- she loved the different artists booths where you can buy one of a kind art prints, shirts, posters, etc. And seeing all of the cosplayers was fun for her too
Might go to Granite State Comic Con this weekend. I could meet Potsie and Ralph Malph from Happy Days!
This post started one way, but I had to make a course correction.
the next New England event that I am likely to be able to attend is Providence, RI, 3rd-5th Nov.
I have a feeling Granite State con (in NH?) is doable, but I am working that weekend. And having just returned after being out for a good-ish 2 months, I would rather just work it.
@TheBatgirlofNML Dec 3 is a Sunday. How mid-east coast are we talking?
And FWIW, I am team ‘just because’.
NC, bit of a drive from NH for a local comic show. It’s not very large. I’d say it’s definitely not worth it if you can’t day trip it. That is a radius of NC, VI, SC, TN, WV, and GA. Some of those would be rough though.
Great thread idea! I’m currently standing in line at Baltimore Comic-Con and will be here all 3 days if anyone else is going!
