Can Superman Sandman Saga be read before Fourth World?

Hi, if this isn’t the right forum to ask this, let me know.

I noticed in Superman 235 that there is a reference to someone important who appears in The New Gods and The Forever People. I was planning on reading Fourth World soon. Are there references in Sandman Saga that will spoil the Fourth World comics, or are these some cute “advertisement references” that I shouldn’t worry about? In other words, should I wait to read Sandman Saga until after going through Fourth World? Thanks.

You can read the Superman Sandman Saga as a stand alone story. The artwork by Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson is quite possible the finest rendition of The Man of Steel in the 80+ year history of the character.
