Lol, I am trying really hard and struggling to find one person in the DC Universe that I would like to have as a father. I can’t think of anyone.

I could imagine that Chuck Taine could be a decent Dad if he ever had kids. I could see him leaving the dangerous life to raise kids in a sane way.

Alfred Pennyworth. If you don’t see where I’m coming from then I’ll forfeit before I begin.

Beat me to the punch @Kon-El, that was my answer before I even read the choices. Talk about sacrificing for and raising your kid till the very last breath.

That is the perfect answer.

I don’t know. Alfred feels like a robot dad to me. Very handy. Not much of a hugger. The kind of person whose child would end up a Batman.

Is there a run where we see a more dad-like and less butler-like version of Alfred?

Not Trigon.

I was just about to mail in a vote for Alfred, too, please

I would point to Robin II: The Joker’s Wild as a good example. At least to me. I suppose I’ll be careful with this because we’re close to touching on what makes a good parent, and I don’t want to go off topic.

He’s been instrumental in the development of Dick and Tim. He discouraged Bruce from making the choice of totally writing off Jean-Paul. He is a positive influence on everyone. Bruce has PTSD of some sort or another. I don’t think any parent could’ve kept him from becoming Batman.

I love that a lot of us are suggesting Alfred. I wholeheartedly agree! But out of choices that’s listed I went with Clark.

Clark is a great father. Jonathan is a great kid. That tells you a lot. He raised his boy right.

Jonathan Kent’s my dude.

Yeah, I’m torn between Jonathan Kent and Alfred, myself. Not easy raising/caring for kids like the ones they had. I think… Jonathan narrowly beats out Alfred for me, cause imagine being able to help raise a person who has incredible power and still has empathy and compassion. That’s pretty amazing parenting, IMO. If Supes wasn’t raised by the Kents, well, we know how that could go. :grimacing:

@BestBeastBoy Agreed. Was gonna go with Jonathan for that very reason, especially given my Superman bias in everything :joy:. Alfred barely edged him out for a couple reasons:

  • I like to believe Clark is inherently a good guy, who was given as wholesome a childhood as could be (for a super powered person) by the Kents. Nurture had everything to do with it, but I think nature also helped.

  • Alfred was a father figure to a whole family of heroes. That guy worked hard.

@Pow-Pow, check out the Pennyworth R.I.P. one shot. Thought it was a well written tribute to the character and his relationships with the Bat family members.

Jonathan Kent, All Clark (the only other father that comes close to him on this list) is really doing is mimicking what Jonathan taught him with a bit of a superhero charm on it.

So Martha and Jonathan Kent are alive again in Clark’s adult life. Right? So now I want to see the “conversation” between Jonathan and Clark about letting the kid go off into space with his maniac Kryptonian grandpa.
